It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. But I don’t want women to simply be aware of breast cancer. I want women to know what to do when they hear the words, “You have breast cancer.”

First, don’t let fear make your decisions. Pray.

Slow down.
Get your pathology. Get a second opinion. Understand exactly what kind of breast cancer you have, because breast cancer is not one disease.

Ask more questions. What are your ER, PR and HER2 results? Stage? Grade? Is additional genomic or mutation profiling appropriate? Germline testing? ctDNA?

Are there actionable targets that could change your treatment options?

Before making an irreversible decision about your body, understand what is being recommended, why, and what other appropriate options exist. Most cancers DO NOT need quick treatment.
YOU HAVE TIME!

I am not anti-screening. I am not anti-oncology. I am pro-informed patient.

Cancer care is also bigger than surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Depending on your cancer, options may include targeted therapies, hormonal therapies, immunotherapies, antibody-drug conjugates and clinical trials.

And while everyone is focused on killing the cancer, someone needs to focus on supporting the person who has cancer.

Nutrition matters. Movement matters. Sleep matters. Metabolic health matters. Your emotional and spiritual health matter. Your community matters. Prayer matters.

This is why I created Quarterbacking Cancer™.
