Boots Outside the Wire Welcomes Our New Hike Coordinator, Jacquelyn! 🌿

We are excited to welcome Jacquelyn Himschoot Britt as our new Hike Coordinator for Boots Outside the Wire!

A Florida native and 10-year U.S. Navy veteran, Jacquelyn spent her military career as a Second Class Deep-Sea Diver, including five years working with dolphins and sea lions in the Navy’s Marine Mammal Program in Key West.

Adventure has always been in her blood! She spent nine years living in the Belizean jungle of Central America, where she co-founded and operated a backpacker resort and adventure company.

A proud mother of four and grandmother of two, Jacquelyn is an outdoor enthusiast who is happiest surrounded by nature, especially near the water. Hiking, paddleboarding, and spending time with loved ones are among her favorite pastimes.

She is also a self-proclaimed cold-weather wimp, so when temperatures drop, you'll likely find her heading south in search of sunshine, sandy shores, and salty air!

As our new Hike Coordinator, Jacquelyn will help scout and evaluate trails before our scheduled hikes to ensure we can provide safe, enjoyable, and adaptable outdoor experiences for veterans of all abilities and experience levels.

Her unique background in military diving, working with marine life, managing an international adventure resort, and her lifelong love of nature and exploration make her a wonderful addition to our Boots team.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a magnificent spirit and true nomad of adventure joining our Boots family! Jacquelyn embodies what Boots Outside the Wire is all about: embracing adventure, connecting with nature, building friendships, and finding joy in the journey.

Here's to many trails explored, friendships made, and adventures ahead with Jacquelyn as our Hike Coordinator!

Welcome to the Boots family, Jacquelyn! 💚🥾

Meet our new Event Coordinator
Teresa White

After proudly serving 32 years in the United States Army and the National Guard, Teresa is now retired and enjoying spending quality time with her grandchildren. She is also open to opportunities to share her experience, skills, and passion for serving others in meaningful ways including with veteran organizations and causes.

Throughout her military career, she held various administrative and leadership responsibilities, including managing promotions, conducting promotion boards, participating in legal boards, and coordinating retirement seminars.

Her final assignment was especially rewarding, as she helped service members prepare for retirement and assisted spouses in understanding Survivor Benefit Plan benefits. She found great
fulfillment in guiding others through important life transitions and ensuring they felt informed and supported.

She values teamwork, building relationships, and serving others. Her combination of military experience, administrative expertise, and commitment to helping people is an asset to our organization where she is dedicated to making a positive difference in the
veteran community.

We are lucky to have her as our events coordinator and blessed with the passion she has for helping other veterans.

Welcome to the Boots Team Teresa Hensler White

Meet the Founder

Heather Clark | Boots Outside the Wire

I grew up in the Tetons near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where I developed a fierce love for the outdoors and an equally strong love for my country.

I'm a Navy veteran, former military spouse, and Afghanistan veteran, where I had the privilege of serving alongside some of our nation's finest warriors. When I returned home, I stepped back into a world where life kept moving, and I didn't have time to have the breakdown I so desperately needed.

A couple of years later, PTSD and depression hit me like a freight train. What followed was a breakdown that would ultimately take me on a long and sometimes difficult journey of healing. Along the way, I became a certified yoga instructor for veterans, explored different paths toward healing, and slowly learned the importance of reconnecting with myself and the world around me.

Last winter, after facing some mental health challenges and limited mobility, I found myself once again struggling to leave the house. I knew I needed to make a change, so I set a simple goal: get outside a couple of times a week and explore the beautiful parks and trails around Middle Tennessee.

It wasn't about hiking miles or conquering mountains. It was simply about getting out the door.

As I started exploring, I remembered how much being outdoors had always meant to me and how healing nature is. Then one day I thought, wouldn't it be great to have some other veterans out here hiking with me?

And just like that, Boots Outside the Wire was born.

I wanted to create something simple, fun, and welcoming. No pressure, no expectations, and no complicated programs or sign up. Just veterans, fresh air, good conversation, and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful places around us.

For me, Boots Outside the Wire is about more than hiking. It's about connection, camaraderie, and remembering that sometimes the smallest steps can lead to the biggest changes.

Our mission is simple: Just get out the door.

🥾 Getting ready for our Warrior Hike?

Wear comfortable hiking shoes or boots with good tread and bring water. Hiking poles are welcome if you use them!

Be prepared for a short, steep incline along the trail. Take your time and go at your own pace.

🚗 After we meet at the Gosset Tract parking lot, we may need to carpool to the trail location because parking there is limited. It all depends on how many hikers we have.

Look forward to seeing you on the trail at 930 am this Saturday the 17th. We step off at 9:45 sharp.
