You aren't necessarily paying for more healthcare.

You're paying to get something back: your time.

No driving across town. No crowded waiting room. No rearranging half your day around an appointment when an appropriate in-home or telehealth visit can fill the gap.

VOCoMed isn't intended to replace your primary care clinician. It's there when you need timely help and your usual care isn't readily available.

Instead of asking, “How do I fit my life around healthcare?”

Ask: “Why can't healthcare fit into my life?”

Less Waiting Room, More Living Room.

The ER isn't always the problem.

Sometimes the problem is that you had nowhere else to go.

It's after hours. You don't feel well enough to wait several days for an appointment. Urgent care may not be convenient. You're not sure whether this is serious.

For many people, the emergency department becomes the default because traditional healthcare hasn't given them another practical option.

VOCoMed is designed to help fill that access gap when your primary care clinician isn't readily available and an in-home or telehealth evaluation is appropriate.

And when the ER really is the right place to be, we'll tell you that too.

One of the most important things we can tell a VOCoMed patient is:

“Don't wait for us. Go to the ER.”

Concierge medicine isn't about avoiding the emergency room at all costs.

It's about knowing when you may not need it, and recognizing when you absolutely do.

Some symptoms require resources that simply don't belong in a living room.

When minutes matter, convenience comes second.

Knowing the difference is part of good medicine.

What does your doctor actually know about you without opening your chart?

Your medications?
Your medical history?
What "normal" looks like for you?
What happened the last time you were sick?

Healthcare can become a series of appointments with people who are meeting you for the first time.

Concierge medicine is different by design.

At VOCoMed, the goal isn't simply easier access to medical care. It's continuity. It's having a clinician who gets to know you over time and understands the context behind the chart.

Because sometimes the most useful part of your medical history isn't a lab result. It's knowing YOU.

HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE? CHECK THE LABEL BEFORE TAKING COLD MEDICINE.

When cold symptoms hit, what's in that medicine cabinet matters.

Some oral decongestants, including pseudoephedrine, may not be appropriate for people with high blood pressure or heart disease.

There are also non-drug and natural options that may help with symptom relief:

• Hydration and adequate rest
• Saline nasal spray or irrigation for congestion
• A cool-mist humidifier
• Honey for cough in adults and children over age 1
• Individualized nutritional and botanical support when appropriate

At VOCoMed, we can also discuss professional-grade Standard Process and MediHerb options, including products such as Congaplex® for nutritional immune support and Andrographis Complex for short-term immune support.

Supplements aren't appropriate for everyone. Medical conditions, pregnancy, allergies, and medication interactions should be considered before choosing a product.

Not sure what's safe with your blood pressure medications or other prescriptions? That's exactly the kind of question we're here to help answer.

FLOODING POSSIBLE: PREPARE YOUR MEDICAL NEEDS NOW

Heavy rain and possible flooding can disrupt road access, power, and routine medical care. Take time now to prepare your household's medical needs.

• Have prescription medications and essential over-the-counter medications ready.
• Keep your medication list, allergies, medical conditions, insurance information, and emergency contacts together in a waterproof container.
• If you use insulin or other refrigerated medications, have a cooler and cold packs available in case of a power outage.
• Charge essential medical devices and backup batteries, including oxygen equipment, CPAPs, glucose monitors, hearing aids, and other equipment.
• Stock condition-specific supplies such as diabetes supplies, inhalers, epinephrine autoinjectors, and wound-care supplies.
• If you depend on oxygen, dialysis, home health services, refrigerated medications, or electrically powered equipment, make a backup plan before conditions deteriorate.
• Avoid floodwater, particularly if you have open wounds.
• Do not delay emergency care for chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, stroke symptoms, significant bleeding, or another medical emergency. Call 911.

ALLERGIES OR A FALL VIRUS?

Congestion, sneezing, and a runny nose can make it difficult to tell what is going around.

Allergies are more likely when you have:
• Itchy or watery eyes
• Frequent sneezing
• Clear runny nose
• Symptoms that worsen after being outdoors
• No fever

A respiratory infection is more likely when you have:
• Fever or chills
• Sore throat
• Body aches or fatigue
• Cough
• Symptoms that progressively change over several days

For seasonal allergies, reducing pollen exposure can help. Keep windows closed when pollen is high, shower and change clothes after extended outdoor activity, and consider saline nasal irrigation. If symptoms persist, appropriate allergy treatment may provide additional relief.

Not every stuffy nose is “just allergies.” Persistent fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, significant wheezing, dehydration, or worsening symptoms deserve medical evaluation.

VO fam! Texas Medical Window Tint Exemption Evaluations are now available through VOCoMed for $99 to nonmembers.

This is one of the many services included for all current VOCoMed members as part of their membership.

The evaluation can be completed by telehealth, but an in-home visit may be arranged when clinically necessary. The visit includes an evaluation to determine eligibility, and the Tx DPS approved exemption shortly after completion.

Approval is not guaranteed. Additional medical records may be required.

September Heat Is Still Texas Heat

The calendar may say September, but South Texas heat can still take a toll on your body.

A few practical reminders:

• Drink water regularly throughout the day, especially when spending time outdoors.
• Schedule yard work, exercise, and other strenuous outdoor activities for cooler parts of the day when possible.
• Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Pay attention to headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, heavy sweating, or unusual fatigue. These can be warning signs of heat-related illness.
• Confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures, or other significant changes in mental status during heat exposure are an emergency. Call 911 and begin cooling while help is on the way.

Some medications and chronic medical conditions can also make it harder for your body to tolerate heat. Do not stop or change medications on your own. If you are concerned about how heat affects your health or medications, discuss it with your healthcare provider.

Check out the 10-day forecast for 78132 in today's graphic and plan outdoor activities accordingly.

New Braunfels Health Pulse: Fall Allergies Are Arriving

Sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, or that constant throat-clearing? September brings us into fall-allergy season, when ragweed and other airborne allergens can become troublesome.

Before reaching for another supplement, start with the basics:

Reduce the pollen coming inside. Keep windows closed when pollen is high, and shower and change clothes after extended time outdoors.

Try saline nasal irrigation. It can physically rinse pollen and other irritants from the nose and may help reduce allergy symptoms. Use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water, not untreated tap water.

Don't overlook proven treatments. Intranasal steroid sprays and antihistamines are established allergy treatments. Natural doesn't automatically mean more effective or safer.

Be cautious with supplements marketed for allergies. Evidence for many herbal allergy remedies remains limited, and supplements can interact with medications.

If you're wheezing, having trouble breathing, or your usual asthma treatment isn't controlling symptoms, don't assume it's just allergies. Seek appropriate medical evaluation.

Less waiting room. More living room.
