When Women Become Medicine for One Another
As a little girl, I watched the relationship between my mother and my grandmother and understood far more than I had words for.
I saw tension. I felt what wasn't being said. And although I couldn't understand it then, those early experiences shaped something in me.
Decades later, I walked into a sound-healing class excited to explore the monochord, learn more about the shruti box, and deepen a relationship with sound that has accompanied me since childhood.
I received all of that.
But the most profound medicine of the day had nothing to do with an instrument.
It was witnessing two skilled, powerful women listen to one another, respect one another, make room for each other's gifts, and create something beautiful together.
Something in me softened.
In my newest blog, I go deeper into my lifelong relationship with music and sound—from learning English through British rock, to the piano that held me through one of the darkest chapters of my life, to the healing work I practice today.
But underneath it all is another story:
What happens when we witness a relationship that shows us something different from what we inherited?
Sometimes healing is understanding the past.
And sometimes healing is simply getting to witness another way.
