Navigating the health care system can be overwhelming. From choosing the right health insurance to finding a provider or understanding complex medical terminology, making informed decisions about your health isn’t always easy.

That’s why October has been recognized as Health Literacy Month since 1999, highlighting the importance of making health information clear, accessible, and actionable.

Why is this so important? Because you are your own best health advocate. When you understand your health options, you can ask better questions, make informed choices, and take control of your well-being.

Thank you so much for believing, and for ALL that you give.

With more than 110,000 Connecticut residents expected to lose Medicaid (HUSKY) coverage on January 1 due to changing federal work rules, Project Access-New Haven is increasing outreach for those who are or become uninsured to find health care. The Community Foundation was recently honored as a Community Champion at PA-NH's recent 16-year celebration. The Foundation first supported Project Access in 2009. At the time, Project Access was a promising idea, built on the generosity of volunteer physicians, the commitment of healthcare partners, and a shared belief that everyone deserves access to quality care. Since then, the nonprofit has provided more than $102 million in services to nearly 5,000 underserved patients.

October 8th, 2026: 16 years of connecting our New Haven neighbors to the care they deserve. 💙

Every moment in this reel reflects the people behind our mission: patients, providers, volunteers, and partners who believe that health care is a right, not a privilege. Thank you for being part of the Project Access New Haven family.

Here’s to 16 years of care, community, and opening doors, and to many more.
