Your doula is here for every question you have when it comes to your pregnancy! And if they don't know the answer, they will point you in the right direction to find out!

🔌 What is a mucus plug?

It is a natural, thick substance that forms a protective barrier at your cervix! Some laboring mamas experience it coming out toward the end of their pregnancy or in early labor, but not all! Let your provider know if you suspect your mucus plug came out.

😮‍💨 What is this intense, achy pain around my hip area?

It might be "round ligament pain". This is natural discomfort that often occurs as your belly grows. Parts of your pelvis are stretching to 1) accommodate that growth and 2) prepare for labor! Let your provider know if you think you're experiencing this.

🤢 What can I eat or drink to help with nausea?

A pregnancy-safe staple is ginger tea! Drinking this tea can help settle your stomach gently. If you're interested in nausea medication, let your provider know!

As your doula, I have plenty of tips in my back pocket, but remember to always consult with your provider for the most accurate care plan for you!

Everyone plans for birth, but who is helping you plan for day three at home? 🍼✨

Your doula’s heart-work doesn't end in the delivery room. Long before baby arrives, your Mae doula sits down with you and your family to build a realistic, peaceful postpartum plan.

Here are some elements that can go into postpartum planning:

Setting visitor boundaries: Protecting your rest and bonding time before unannounced guests show up.

Physical recovery prep: Making sure your home is stocked with healing essentials and rest protocols.

Infant feeding: Walking through nursing, pumping, or bottle-feeding goals before day one.

Partner teamwork: Assigning clear roles so your support system knows exactly how to step up.

Perinatal mental health: Spotting early warning signs of baby blues or postpartum anxiety so you get support fast.

You deserve to enter the postpartum period feeling fully cared for, not caught off guard. 🤎

This Black Breastfeeding Week, we celebrate Black mothers, families, and the communities that help make breastfeeding support possible. 🤎

Breastfeeding journeys are personal—and support matters. Culturally responsive care, trusted referrals, and space to ask questions can help families feel informed, empowered, and less alone.

A special thank-you to Chermeka Darby—lactation counselor, certified birth and postpartum doula, and founder of The Healing Latch—for sharing her expertise and commitment to supporting Black moms nationwide.

We are planting roots in Texas! 🌱 We are thrilled to announce our official partnership with Doulio to expand the doula workforce.

To truly address maternal health disparities, we have to invest in the people doing the work on the ground. By joining forces with Doulio, we are supporting the training, credentialing, and deployment of a passionate new wave of birth workers. This collaboration ensures that more Medicaid-insured mamas will have direct access to the culturally congruent, life-saving doula care they deserve.

More trained doulas means a stronger, more supportive village for our growing families. 🤎

As doulas, we all have that one reliable snack that we reach for to throw into our doula bag as we're heading into a birth!

🍱 Are you a "meal prepper" and have a balanced meal ready to go?

🌾 Do you keep a stash of granola bars?

🍎 Is fruit your birth pick-me-up?

At the last birth one of our Mae doulas attended she made a quick protein smoothie for the first time and found that to be exactly what she needed for that 11 PM call!

❓ What is your go-to snack/meal that you reach for when going into a birth? 👇 Let us know in the comments!

The village is growing in California! ✨

We are incredibly proud to partner with For The Village to usher in the next generation of California birth workers.

Through this collaborative partnership, we are directly supporting the training and development of new doulas, empowering them with the tools they need to build sustainable practices while serving Medi-Cal eligible families across the state.

Together, we are expanding access to vital, community-based support and ensuring that no mama has to navigate pregnancy, birth, or postpartum without a fierce advocate in her corner.

Illinois, our doula tribe just got stronger! 🌱 We are incredibly proud to announce our official partnership with Sokana Collective and Gifted Hands International to aggressively expand the doula workforce across the state.

To truly address maternal health disparities, we have to invest in the community leaders already doing the heart-work on the ground. By joining forces with these two powerhouse organizations, we are supporting the training, credentialing, and deployment of a passionate new wave of doulas.

This collaboration ensures that more Medicaid-insured mamas in Illinois will have direct access to the culturally responsive, doula support they deserve. More trained doulas means a safer, more supportive ecosystem for our growing families. 🤎

Happy World Breastfeeding Month! We are celebrating the beautiful, sometimes messy, and incredibly rewarding journey of infant feeding. We also want to remind you that it is a *learned skill* for both you and your baby, and you do not have to figure it out alone.

That is exactly where your postpartum doula steps in.

When you have a Mae doula in your corner, your feeding goals are protected and supported. Here is what that looks like in real life:
✨ Helping you find a comfortable nursing position (especially while healing from a C-section!)
✨ Assisting with the latch and helping you read early hunger cues
✨ Recognizing when it's time to refer you to an IBCLC for specialized clinical support

Whether you are exclusively nursing, exclusively pumping, or combo-feeding, a supported mama is the best kind of mama. You deserve a village that cheers you on.
