Just shy of two months ago, we had the honor and privilege of co-hosting a talking circle with Gloria in her beloved, iconic NYC home. We talked about endometriosis - what the next generation of women deserves to know, and how we might shift the cultural narrative and influence policy reform.
At 92, she was still finding the energy to work tirelessly, championing causes and voices. And she championed them not by talking, but by listening.
Everyone in that circle felt, for their moment with Gloria, like the only person in the room. Truly seen. Truly heard. Her mind was sharp as ever - listening with real intent to every story, looking for where she could help.
Our learnings from Gloria are endless: she reinforced the power of community, she reminded us that it's good to cry, she showed us the power of listening, of empathy, of laughing together. Each person left her home galvanized - with a renewed dedication to do the work, for the women who come after us.
Losing Gloria feels frightening, as women, in today's world. But as we reflect on her extraordinary life, her over six decades of work stand as proof that change can happen. It takes bravery. It takes coming together. But it can be done.
It's heartbreaking that she's no longer here to rebuff this by saying, "I'd prefer to just be a human", but Gloria - you are a legend. Thank you 🤍🕊️🪽
Gloria’s Foundation will carry her legacy forward - keeping Gloria's NYC home a permanent site for organizing, activating her archives to build a more inclusive history, and creating programming that continues to advance the feminist movement. If you're able to donate, please do.
