Trying to get pregnant can make you feel like there’s a new supplement, diet rule or fertility “hack” you should be trying every week.

During my own TTC journey, these were the things I kept coming back to as a fertility dietitian: nutrition, understanding my cycle, being intentional with supplements, stress management + sleep.

There’s no such thing as a magic fertility fix and more is not always better. For me, these things helped me feel in control so things overall felt a whole lot less overwhelming.

This literally just happened to me the other day. I was starving and the entree finally comes to the table. Im sitting, talking, taking another bite and without realizing it, finished the entire thing. Afterwards, I was uncomfortable and full. And I see this all the time.
If the plate is in-front of us and we’re hungry, we’re going to keep eating.
It’s not about self control or willpower. This is a set up issue.
So here’s my plan next time I go out to eat:
1. Don’t show up starving. Before you leave the house eat something.
2. Get an appetizer to hold you over like a soup or salad — sharing works!
3. Ask for a box as soon as the food comes out and portion out what you’re planning to take home
Obviously, we can only control so much but having a plan is always a good idea 🤓

This healthy lemon chicken soup is highly anticipated in this household. We literally wait all summer for the temperature to drop just a little bit to make it.
It’s light, cozy, packed with protein and veggies, and somehow tastes creamy without using any cream 😏 .
The best part is that it’s actually simple to make:
* chicken breast
* mirepoix
* cauliflower rice
* chicken broth
* egg yolks
* lots of fresh lemon
* herbs + seasoning

The egg yolk + lemon mixture at the end is what gives the broth that silky, creamy texture without making the soup feel heavy — this is ESSENTIAL!!!

I also used Trader Joe’s mirepoix and frozen cauliflower rice to cut down on prep, because duh (it’s a no brainer).

Save this recipe for this winter!! Comment ‘SOUP’ for the full recipe 🙃

Would you make this with cauliflower rice or orzo?

When I was pregnant, people used to tell me ‘baby’s really don’t need very much in the beginning’ and while that may be true, there are a few ESSENTIALS that we, personally, could not live without these first 7 weeks (part 2)
1. BabyBjörn US & CA bouncer
2. HALO I Baby Sleep Essentials swaddles
3. Anker eufy Baby portable heated breast pump
4. Little Remedies® gas drops — our night nurse recommended these over all the baby bliss products and thank g*d she did 🙏
5. Huckleberry tracking app for everything!!
6. Lovevery play mat and developmental toys 🧸

In all honesty, if you were to ask me what I feared most about being pregnant, I probably would have told you it was my body changing and having no control over it (and labor but duh 😅)

I remember even at like 7 weeks, putting on leggings and feeling guilty for thinking ‘I hate this already’ (it was probably just bloat at that point).

At 13 weeks, I start taking weekly progress photos, (not because I’m obsessed with taking pictures of my body) but because it created a different kind of control for me.

Not control over the changes themselves, but the ability to witness them intentionally.

I got to pause each week and say, ‘this is where we are right now’…

My 7 week thoughts gradually became ‘I got every version of this, I can’t wait to see my belly next week’ 😆

And something that did not register to me until after pregnancy: we can become so focused on getting through each stage that we don’t realize how temporary it all is. Then the baby is born, and that version of you, suddenly exists only in pictures 📸

Control does not always mean preventing change. Sometimes it means learning that you can allow change to happen, while staying present through it all 🤝

Anyways, long story short, even if they are never posted or make it past your camera roll, TAKE THOSE PROGRESS PICS 🤰— they have more meaning than you’d think….

What are your thoughts seeing your body change during pregnancy ??

Breastfeeding weight loss is way more nuanced than “your body holds onto fat to protect your milk supply.” And opposed to what you may have seen or read online, postpartum weight loss IS possible while breastfeeding🤱 😬

While breastfeeding, the body absolutely needs more calories and oftentimes you’ll know it because you are MUCH hungrier. Because we are hungrier, we eat more (naturally). If we end up eating back the additional calories (or more) —> we maintain or gain weight. And that’s why breastfeeding doesn’t automatically equal weight loss 🤔💭

Your body does not simply shut down fat loss in order to protect milk production. Some women lose weight. Some maintain. Some gain while breastfeeding and it all depends on food intake, hunger, sleep, activity, pregnancy weight gain, breastfeeding demands and individual energy needs.

The goal = adequately fuel milk production and recovery without constantly over-fueling ⛽️ .
