The number that stopped me in my tracks: 78%. That’s how many of the women who@took the Strong for Life Assessment said, “I know what to do, I just don’t do it”.

For years I would’ve called that a willpower problem and guess what? I’d be wrong.

It’s. Or a knowledge gap. It’s a translation gap. “Lift heavy. Eat more protein” is information—it’s not a plan for YOUR Tuesday at 6pm.

A plan that doesn’t fit your life was never going to work no matter how much discipline you threw at it.

You didn’t fail. Your plan did.

If you’re in that 78% — comment STORY and I’ll send you a starting point built for the life you actually have.

Things I stopped doing that changed everything in midlife. ⬇️

Spoiler: none of them were about trying harder.

The advice that works for a 25-year-old body doesn't work for a midlife nervous system. Full stop.

When I stopped following the wrong rules, my body finally started responding.

✋ If you follow wellness content, you've been told your gut needs a $90 probiotic, a diversity "score," and a fermented drink at every meal. Here's what the 2025–2026 peer-reviewed literature actually supports — and where it quietly contradicts the hype.

1. "Higher diversity = healthier gut" is being retired.
For years, a diversity number was treated like a credit score to maximize. Newer work pushes back. A 2026 Frontiers review argues that microbial functional capacity, metabolic activity, and ecological features like resilience and redundancy are better markers of gut health than composition alone. Translation: it's not how many species you have, it's what they collectively do — which beneficial compounds they produce. Two people can have identical diversity scores, one loaded with beneficial microbes and one with pro-inflammatory ones. The number alone tells you very little.
Frontiers

2. The gut-brain link got more rigorous — and more interesting.
This is where hype and science usually diverge, but the evidence tightened. A twin-cohort study (genetics controlled for) found that shifting the microbiome with a prebiotic measurably improved cognitive performance in three months. And separate 2025–2026 preclinical work showed gut microbes can directly influence brain development. Still early, still mostly not "do X and your memory improves" — but the mechanism is real, not marketing.

3. Fiber variety beats any single "superfood."
The least sexy finding is the most robust. Controlled human studies consistently show that regularly eating a variety of plant-based fibers increases microbial diversity and short-chain fatty acid production. Not one miracle fiber — variety. The functional diversity that actually matters comes from eating a wide range of plants, not from a powder.

👉 The real story is less thrilling than the hype and more useful: your daily food variety does more than anything you can buy in a bottle.

Strong looks different at every age.

👉 At 25, strong might mean chasing a PR—loading the bar heavier, moving faster, recovering by tomorrow.

👉 At 45, strong might mean carrying groceries up three flights without a second thought, and knowing your hips and knees will thank you later.

👉 At 65, strong might mean getting off the floor unassisted, staying steady on uneven ground, keeping your independence.

✅ Here's what doesn't change: your muscles respond to training at every age. The research is clear—people in their 70s, 80s, even 90s build strength when they lift. Sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) isn't a life sentence. It's a signal to keep moving.

✋ So stop measuring your body against who you were a decade ago. That comparison steals the win.

💪 Strong at your age is showing up for the body you have today—and building the one you'll need tomorrow.

What does strong look like for you right now? 👇

Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, founder of the Institute for Muscle-Centric Medicine®, describes skeletal muscle as the body's largest endocrine organ—a tissue that shapes the entire trajectory of how we age. It's not just about strength or aesthetics. Muscle governs metabolic health, blood sugar regulation, resilience, and long-term independence. She's even coined the term "muscle span" to describe the years of life we spend with healthy, functional muscle.

Resistance training. A 2024 randomized controlled trial in postmenopausal women confirmed that resistance training improves body composition and strength and acts as a preventive strategy against muscle atrophy—while diet changes alone had only a trivial effect. Progressive overload is the engine: gradually increasing weight, reps, or intensity. Most women notice strength gains within 2–4 weeks, with measurable muscle changes typically appearing after 12–16 weeks of consistent training.

Dear 38-year-old me... 💌

I know you're exhausted. I know you're doing everything you've been told and feeling like your body is fighting you at every turn.

It's not.

Your body is trying to tell you something. And the message isn't "try harder."

The message is: you have been running on empty for so long, you've forgotten what full feels like.

There is a name for what you're experiencing. There is a reason. And there is a way through.

It starts with one conversation.

If one more person tells me to "just reduce my stress" 😂

Honey. My nervous system has been in fight-or-flight for the better part of a decade. I have been stressed since the Obama administration.

"Just reduce stress" is like telling someone with a broken leg to walk it off.

What actually works is understanding WHY your nervous system is stuck — and giving it the specific inputs it needs to feel safe enough to heal.

That's what we talk about on every.body.talks. — the real stuff, with real science, and zero fluff.

What we'd tell our 38-year-old selves about our bodies in midlife — and nothing held back. 🎙️

The conversation we wish someone had given us years ago.

The exhaustion. The weight that won't budge. The feeling that your body has become a stranger.

That's not aging. That's not weakness. That's a nervous system that needed the right tools — and nobody handed them to you.

We're handing them to you now. 💙

The strongest women I know in their fifties and sixties aren't the ones with the best genetics or the most free time. They're the ones who stopped chasing a number and started chasing a capability.

Let me explain the difference, because it changes everything.

When your goal is a number — a weight, a size, a scale reading — every workout is a withdrawal. You're trying to subtract. To shrink. To get back to something. And the whole thing is exhausting, because you're measuring your worth against a target that was never really about your health in the first place.

But when your goal is a capability — carrying all the groceries in one trip, getting off the floor without using your hands, keeping up on the hike, lifting your own suitcase into the overhead bin — every workout becomes a deposit. You're building toward something. Adding to your life instead of subtracting from your body.

Same squats. Same protein. Completely different life.

This is what "Strong for Life" actually means. It was never about a look. It's about capability that compounds — strength you're banking now so that the woman you'll be in 20 &30 years can still do the things that make life hers. Get down on the floor with the people she loves AND get back up. Travel without fear. Stay independent. Stay capable.

That's the whole game. Not "get your body back."
Build the body that carries you forward.

And here's the part that matters today: this isn't complicated. You don't need a fancy program or a perfect plan. You need to lift something heavy-ish a few times a week, eat enough protein to support the muscle, & keep showing up — returning when life interrupts instead of starting over. That's it.

You can build this on your own — plenty of women do. It's just faster, & it lasts longer, when you're not doing it alone.

That's what the every.body.talks wellness community is.
A place where the "lift heavy-ish, eat your protein, keep returning" gets turned into an actual plan built for your real life & a room full of women building capability right alongside you.

Comment FORWARD and I'll send you everything you need to know about joining.

🙏 A moment of silence for:

👎 The 1,200 calorie recommendation. We don't know who decided this was the number for adult women, but they were wrong and they owe us an apology.

👎 Detox tea. We bought it. We regret it. We have moved on.

👎 The belief that we could out-exercise poor sleep, chronic stress, and a full-time job caring for everyone around us. We held this belief for an embarrassingly long time.

👎 Fat-free everything. The flavor left. The sugar stayed. Nobody told us.

👎 "No pain, no gain." Borrowed from elite athletes. Applied to everyone. Responsible for more unnecessary suffering than we can calculate.

👎 The idea that if we weren't seeing results, the answer was to simply try harder.

We were not given great information. We did the best we could with what we had. And now we know better — which means we get to do better.

That's the whole point.

Every body has a story — let's talk about it. 🎙️
