The biggest misconception I hear about nervous system regulation?

That once you learn how to regulate, you’ll never get triggered or activated again.
No.

📣The nervous system is designed to respond. Stress, overwhelm, uncertainty, big emotions — these things are part of being human.

The difference is what happens when those moments come.

👉🏼There’s more capacity to pause.
👉🏼Less flustering when things don’t go according to plan.
👉🏼Less spiraling when something feels uncertain.
👉🏼More ability to stay present with what’s happening instead of immediately reacting or shutting down.

And perhaps most importantly, there are now actual tools to meet yourself in those moments.

Breathwork practices.
Somatic tools.
Ways to come back into the body.
Ways to create a little more space between what’s happening and how you respond.

That’s what regulation is really about. Not never getting triggered.

It’s having the capacity to move through activation without it completely taking over.

👏🏼And that’s exactly what we practice inside Regulate.

Because learning about the nervous system is one thing.

Having practices you can actually reach for when life gets messy is another.

I think we missed the plot with nervous system regulation.👀

Somewhere along the way, we started thinking regulation meant being calm all the time.

More meditation.
More breathwork.
More stillness.
More practices to bring ourselves back down.

👉🏼But your body doesn’t only regulate through calm.

It regulates through movement.
Expression.
Connection.
Laughter.
Play.
Pleasure.
Nature.
Rest.
Stillness.

Sometimes your body needs to slow down.

And sometimes it needs to dance, cry, laugh, move, explore, connect, or feel something fully.

Because a regulated nervous system isn’t one that never gets activated…

It’s one that has the capacity to move through activation and come back to safety.

So maybe the question isn’t, “What do I need to do to calm myself down?”

Maybe it’s: what actually helps you come back to your center?

For me, it’s breathwork (lol duh 😂), but also being in nature, traveling somewhere new, dancing, and laughing until my stomach hurts with my friends.
