so much is going on in the world but it’s also international black cat day and so obviously also all kinds of cats day and i would be remiss if i didn’t take a moment to celebrate the incredible creatures that have graced my life as of late, starting of course (in oorder of appearance) with Bagheera, aka black panther aka the ultimate black cat experience, Nisreen, Asad, Zmurrod, Fairuz, Simba, Sumaya, Amira, and last but not least, the mighty Tyson whose spirit continues to bring us joy and gratitude for the time we had together. hug your pets tight, they are wise and in your life for a reason. the connection and love they give so freely is healing and precious beyond measure 🤍🐈🐈‍⬛💫

it’s a fine line between the hard-earned triumph of integration and embodiment, and the treacherous trap of being hijacked by an old story.

sovereignty over our inner state is a daily practice. so is holding space for another’s pain, and for the pain of the world, without being engulfed by it.

it’s in returning to that practice, every day, that we build the capacity to remain fully present without abandoning ourselves.

not every sacrifice is sacred.

compassion must never cost us our voice.

around this time a few years ago, and yet it feels like lifetimes have passed since i fully claimed and expressed my voice.

the last three years have given me a lot to feel, sit with, and think about.

it is astounding to me how growth never ends. how fear never hesitates to charge back the minute a wave has rendered you more fragile. how old patterns threaten to reconquer hard-earned sovereign territory the moment overwhelm leaves you less discerning.

and it never ceases to amaze me how, through it all, our sacred, empowered, unwavering voice stays put. quietly steady beneath the bellowing waves, fully trusting that it will prevail once more.

the time has come to sing again. to breathe again. to feel fully alive again.

and i’m profoundly grateful for the discernment that keeps bringing me back to the practice of being whole, every day that i can.

i know rebirth is near when i start feeling the pangs of isolation.

the familiar stirring of something only i can hear, asking to come through me again. lived experience transmuted into exquisite beauty and medicine.

slowly but surely, i am settling into the quiet and spaciousness this gestation will require.

it promises to be a long winter.

but spring will be in full bloom.

it’s been a few years since that interview, and i am still learning what it means — and what it takes — to fully embody the ever-expanding depth of the divine feminine.

what a profound gift, and what a humbling practice it is.

to stand in the midst of that rare capacity to create, to feel, to intuit, to fiercely nurture and protect — while staying anchored in an unwavering sense of purpose, and in the life-giving, indomitable strength only we know we carry.

hail the wild and creative feminine creatures of this world.

where would this world be without them?

growth is not linear. and the past three years of war have stirred the intensity of those wounds all over again.

freedom, i’m learning, lies in allowing what needs to move through us — wild and unencumbered. with every sound we make, the memory of being silenced fades a little further away.

here’s an excerpt from of broken pieces and light ahead, from a time when the silencing brutally held me hostage.

it was a long road back, but joy prevailed — as it always does when we let it.

voiceless

silence
the monsters are back
roaring from all around
threatening to take your soul

hush hush
not a sound
the dragon’s awake
and its wrath so near

lips sealed
as your words dance before your eyes
muffled songs of war and grief
