TODAY: Nurses at NYC Health + Hospitals Kings County Hospital held an emergency rally to fight back against union busting and demand the immediate reinstatement of a nurse leader who was suspended for advocating for safe staffing! Nurses were joined at the rally by elected officials, including Senator Jabari Brisport and representatives from the offices of New York State Assemblymember Brian Cunningham, Assmeblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest, New York City Council Member Mercedes Narcisse and Council Member Rita Joseph, and labor and community allies New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO Committee of Interns and Residents and Citizen Action of New York - New York City Chapter to make it clear that NYC Health+Hospital’s retaliation against union nurses must stop now!

Today, NYSNA nurses and healthcare professionals at UVM Health - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new four-year contract! Highlights of the contract include improvements to safe staffing language, protections against workplace violence and artificial intelligence, pay increases to help recruit and retain staff, and no cuts to health benefits. After bargaining for nearly a year, CVPH members also won retroactive pay for the first time in decades — congratulations, CVPH nurses and healthcare professionals!

NYSNA Director at Large Sonia Lawrence, BSN, RN, spoke at the NY Health Act Rally in the Bronx on Saturday, alongside Hon. Gustavo Rivera, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, physicians, medical students, community members and more. The NY Health Act would bring a single-payer, Medicare for All system to our state, guaranteeing healthcare for every New Yorker. Advocates held several rallies across the state over the weekend to demand healthcare for all.

LAST NIGHT: NYSNA nurses at Northwell Health/Putnam Hospital joined elected officials and labor allies for a virtual town hall meeting to discuss the critical need for safe staffing in their community! After nearly a year of bargaining, hospital administrators continue to push back on including enforceable safe staffing language in nurses' contract. Congratulations to NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, BSN, RN, CCRN, who accepted the Labor Leader of the Year award at the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL)'s annual convention on Saturday.
