Paddle for the Cure Join our extraordinary movement. Water is Life. www.pfcnyc.org Paddle for the Cure is a special support organization for breast cancer survivors.

Paddle for the Cure NYC (PFC) is an Independent Breast cancer survivor-led 501(c)(3) charity promoting water sports, wellness, and our signature Circle of Light™ worldwide. We offer a unique survivorship program that uses recreational dragon boat paddling to manage treatment side effects for breast cancer survivors and promotes a positive and healthy lifestyle. Organized by survivors ourselves, we paddle our way to recovery with each other and a tremendous group of supporters and paddling enthusiasts along our side. Our on-water season is May through October. Off-season indoor practices are available November through April. We plan to practice weekly in the World's Fair Marina and participate in Dragon Boat races along the East Coast. Our team events are open to all and they promote a healthy lifestyle, a way of getting life and movement back through emotional support, team spirit, and exercise. Donations and tickets at our fundraisers and events are 100% tax-deductible as we are a 501 (c) non-profit organization.

Wednesday Trivia | The “-ING” Edition

2026 is end-ing, and Leah is still jok-ing. That’s her! For Leah, laugh-ing is a must. Find-ing humor and tak-ing life a little less seriously help her keep liv-ing fully while she’s process-ing her health challenges. She calls her story Seven Lives, and laughter has helped her through some of her hardest days. It’s part of her heal-ing, and she keeps shar-ing that formula for liv-ing.

After all that paddl-ing and splash-ing, Chef Leah has some season-ing for the giv-ing season!

A scoop of car-ing, a handful of show-ing up, and a double scoop of listen-ing. Stir in speak-ing up to share a little wisdom, volunteer-ing your time, and lift-ing someone up when life gets heavy. Finish with forgiv-ing, thank-ing, and extra lov-ing. The universe has a way of giv-ing love back, and Leah’s already ask-ing for seconds!

Keep tun-ing in! Chef Leah still has a few leftovers worth tast-ing. We have more events com-ing up, including a powerful one to give this season a beautiful end-ing. We’re sav-ing a little extra light for that one. ✨

What’s your “-ING” this season? Drop a word in the comments that Leah missed!

Our small but mighty Paddle for the Cure NYC could use a help-ing hand. Volunteer, donate, or share our mission so we can keep show-ing up for breast cancer survivors beyond treatment.

RIGHT PEOPLE + RIGHT VISION = SUCCESS

They ask survivors to share their stories. They talk about finding a cure. We keep asking, what about life after treatment? Who’s investing in helping survivors thrive?

When floodwaters recede, families still need help rebuilding. A two-time breast cancer survivor, our founder Leah Salmorin knows what it takes to rebuild after treatment. You can hear the words “cancer-free” and still live with what cancer and treatment left behind. Breast Cancer Awareness Month has 31 days. Survivors need support 365 days a year.

People see our free events and assume we have paid staff and a big budget. Surprise! Most of the work is done by our volunteer Dragon Force, led by Leah, the Real Pink Dragon. With the mentality of a dragon, the heart of a lion, and the tenacity of a Fire Horse, Leah puts her God-given gifts to work. When God wakes her up at 3 a.m. with an idea, she writes it down. Then the Dragon Force helps bring it to life through paddling, campus wellness, and community events for survivors, students, and neighbors.

No grants. All volunteer. We rebuilt Paddle for the Cure NYC in 2016 with just $25. Imagine what we could do with steady funding. We could get more survivors on the water, bring wellness programs to more campuses, and keep offering free events for our community year-round.

Small but mighty. We don’t compete to be the biggest. We aim to be the most innovative and make a global impact for survivors.

As Leah says, “As long as there’s air coming out of my nose, this Pink Dragon will keep roaring!” Let’s fund both cancer research and survivor wellness.

We stand for those who can’t. We stand for the water. Water is life. We are the water, the light of hope that never fades.

Include Paddle for the Cure NYC in your year-end giving. Pledge your support or become a sponsor. See the flyers for ways to give.

Throwback to September 12, 2020, when Paddle for the Cure NYC received our first letter of recognition from the NYC Mayor’s Office for our Fifth Annual Stand Up Paddle Virtual Festival!

Paddlers around the world raced on their local waters in support of breast cancer survivors and their families. Thank you to Kostal Paddle, our SUP partner, and to every paddler who made this global race possible.

We’d love to bring back our global SUP festival. With the funding, resources, and support of partners and sponsors, we could once again unite paddlers around the world to race for survivors.

THE PINK DRAGON ROARS—

Hear Leah Salmorin’s message at Bowl for Hope on 10/27/26 celebrating 10 years strong!

PFC brings hope. WILD brings light. Together, we’re creating a movement of pink waves!

Thank you to Kelly Roberts Hougland, the entire Women in Lighting + Design Team , all our sponsors, and PFC and WILD volunteers for making this celebration possible.

Special thanks to breast cancer survivor Gladys Varela for sharing her diagnosis and paddling experience. James Wang was scheduled to share his four years as a PFC paddler , committee and pacer. Although he arrived late and missed his speaking slot, he still showed up and did his part!

We believe in research. Why not fund both research AND wellness? Finishing treatment doesn’t end the need for support—survivors continue living with side effects and challenges.

Rebuilt in 2016 with just $25, PFC continues providing free survivor programs despite limited resources and no grants. Our community programs also bring connection and hope to students.

We need supporters with the courage to invest in a small but mighty organization. Consider PFC for your year-end giving or employer matching. Imagine what we could do together!

Honoring lives, celebrating culture, and sharing hope and light!

Paddle for the Cure NYC joined this Día de los Mu***os celebration to honor loved ones we’ve lost—including those taken by breast cancer—and connect with our diverse community. Remembering those who came before us strengthens our purpose to support those still here.

Thank you, Las Doñas , for welcoming us! Special thanks to our lovely paddlers and volunteers, Gladys Varela, Carolina Jaramillo , and Victoria, for showing up and sharing our mission with heart.

Together, we keep memories alive and spread the light of hope.
