FEMM (Fertility Education + Medical Management) is a knowledge- and science-based reproductive health program for women, which teaches them to identify, track, and comprehend changes in their body that are relevant to their health and fertility. Women are guided to notice important, specific biological signs—i.e., menstruation and ovulation—and understand both why these signs occur and what they m

ean for their general and sexual health. Women can use these personal observations to more fully understand their body, knowledgeably partner with medical professionals in identifying health problems and solutions, address any irregularities and underlying problems, and make decisions about the timing of their pregnancies. FEMM has its headquarters in New York, with health centers available in Columbus, OH; New York, NY; and Eunice and Lafayette, LA. See more info here: https://femmhealth.org/health-centers. For more info about the FEMM Education page, see this: https://femmhealth.org/education/learn-femm. A FEMM iPhone is available.

“By introducing [fertility awareness] early, we empower young people to better understand their bodies, manage their health, and make informed decisions about their well-being. This early education fosters a more positive and informed attitude towards menstrual health and reproductive cycles, which can lead to healthier habits and better overall outcomes in the future.” —Tatiana Ramos, Certified FEMM Teacher

Studying for exams? Moving to a new place? Stressful travel plans? Or maybe a big life event? Any of these can disrupt your hormonal rhythm, leading to a longer-than-normal follicular phase (the first half of your cycle) and delayed ovulation. And guess what? Delayed ovulation is the most common reason for a "late" period!

The luteal phase (the second half of your cycle) is typically the most stable part of the menstrual cycle, lasting between 9 and 18 days. ⏳ If your luteal phase goes beyond its usual length, that's when your period is truly considered late, and it may be time to take a pregnancy test. 🤰

So, how can you track this? 📊 Charting your cycle is key! It helps you move past the myth of a universal 28-day cycle. By recognizing the signs of hormonal shifts, you'll know when delayed ovulation is causing your cycle to run long—and when a late period is worth investigating further.
