It’s , but for us, it’s every day. At Jumo Health, we strive to create educational materials that are clear, easy to comprehend, and age-appropriate so that volunteers and their loved ones can make the most informed decision regarding their health. Why?

Approximately 50% of adults can’t read at a high school level, and 88% aren’t proficient in health literacy. As a result, over 80% of the health information provided in the doctor’s office is forgotten before patients or their parents get home, and over 50% of the recalled information is misremembered.

Want to learn more about why health literacy is essential and how we help to bridge the gap? Check out the full article at https://jumohealth.com/2023/10/why-health-literacy-matters-3-tips-to-help-you-bridge-the-gap/

Jumo Health is proud to recognize , and our continued commitment to helping children and their families achieve better health care through better education.

In the article below, we revisit how clinical studies play a crucial role in developing age-appropriate medication and treatments for children.

"Children are a vulnerable population; however, they deserve the same rights to medication options as adults. We can achieve this by protecting children through clinical research, not from clinical research."

Today, we’re celebrating by highlighting Dr. Carlos J. Finlay. When Dr. Finlay discovered the cause of yellow fever (mosquitos), many didn’t believe him. Yet, despite people disregarding his discovery, he persisted. Eventually, the U.S. army confirmed his theory and began controlling the mosquito population to prevent yellow fever. Dr. Finlay is just one of the numerous hispanic doctors and researchers who have helped transform healthcare as we know it.

Today is Youth Mental Health Day! 💡 Did you know that approximately 30% of the global population is under the age of 18 — and that nearly half of all youth report experiencing some level of mental health difficulties?

By engaging young people in discussions and activities about how to improve their mental health, goes beyond raising awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding mental difficulties such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and more. YMHD aims to tackle the heart of the issue, by giving young people a voice and agency to take steps towards positive mental health.

Throughout history, Hispanic doctors, nurses, scientists, and researchers have helped shape health care for the better. They’ve cured diseases, broken the genetic code, found the real culprit for yellow fever, researched Parkinson’s disease in space, and have blazed new trails – like Antonia Novello, the first Hispanic surgeon general for the United States.

So, to honor the Hispanic healthcare pioneers who have contributed so much to healthcare as we know it, we’re dedicating our next three posts to a few exceptional people. Follow along to learn more about them.

More than 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. are living with mental illness. For minorities, getting help can be challenging due to cost, inadequate healthcare coverage, and the stigma that can sometimes come with admitting you’re struggling. Compound that with the knowledge that many minorities have witnessed or experienced racial discrimination or trauma, and the need for mental health equity is more significant than ever.

If you or someone you know is struggling, encourage them to reach out to a friend, a doctor, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness NAMI at https://NAMI.org/help

In the pursuit of health equity, it is crucial to make clinical research more accessible to all communities by embracing solutions that consider diverse cultural, age, and educational backgrounds.

Animation is a powerful tool that brings written medical information to life, bridging literacy gaps and breaking down comprehension barriers. Through animation, we can reduce fears and anxiety around clinical studies, help patients understand their conditions, and manage study expectations — all while increasing engagement and compliance. Animation turns patient education into a story that resonates with every individual, irrespective of their background.

Animation is not just a tool, it is a revolution in the healthcare communication landscape.
