It’s , but for us, it’s every day. At Jumo Health, we strive to create educational materials that are clear, easy to comprehend, and age-appropriate so that volunteers and their loved ones can make the most informed decision regarding their health. Why?

Approximately 50% of adults can’t read at a high school level, and 88% aren’t proficient in health literacy. As a result, over 80% of the health information provided in the doctor’s office is forgotten before patients or their parents get home, and over 50% of the recalled information is misremembered.

Today, we honor the life and work of Dr. Severo Ochoa de Albornoz, a Spanish doctor and biochemist who won the Nobel Prize in 1956 for synthesizing ribonucleic acid (RNA). Without Dr. Ochoa’s discovery, we wouldn’t understand as much as we do about genetics and gene therapy.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is observed every September by organizations around the world, with the goal of increasing awareness and raising funds for those affected by childhood cancer.

Our comic book "Understanding Childhood Cancer" was designed for kids aged 7-12, and follows the story of Alex and his classmates, as they embark on a journey to learn how childhood cancers affect the body, and how different treatment options work.

Today, we’re celebrating by highlighting Dr. Carlos J. Finlay. When Dr. Finlay discovered the cause of yellow fever (mosquitos), many didn’t believe him. Yet, despite people disregarding his discovery, he persisted. Eventually, the U.S. army confirmed his theory and began controlling the mosquito population to prevent yellow fever. Dr. Finlay is just one of the numerous hispanic doctors and researchers who have helped transform healthcare as we know it.

Today is Youth Mental Health Day! 💡 Did you know that approximately 30% of the global population is under the age of 18 — and that nearly half of all youth report experiencing some level of mental health difficulties?

By engaging young people in discussions and activities about how to improve their mental health, goes beyond raising awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding mental difficulties such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and more.
