Does your elbow hurt when you grip a mug, carry groceries, or turn a doorknob? It could be tennis elbow, and you don't have to play tennis to get it.
Tennis elbow is irritation of the tendons on the outside of the elbow, where the forearm muscles that grip and lift attach. It usually builds up from repeated gripping, lifting, typing, or using tools, and it often shows up as pain on the outside of the elbow and a weaker grip.
Physical therapy can help. A physical therapist checks your elbow, wrist, and shoulder to find what's overloading the tendon. Treatment includes hands-on soft tissue work along the forearm muscles and tendon, and eccentric loading, which means slow, controlled strengthening that helps the tendon heal and handle load again. We also adjust how you grip and lift during your day so the pain stays away.
