Which meal would you recommend?

Our RD Rebecca, Rebecca Slick, is sharing the MAJOR differences between these two similar plates.

๐Ÿฅฉ Meal 1: Steak cooked in butter, mashed potatoes, and broccoli

๐Ÿ—Meal 2: Grilled chicken, roasted potatoes, and broccoli

Both are a protein, starch, and vegetable. Members might think these two plates offer the same nutrition!

However, Meal 1 contains a steak offering not only protein, but tons of saturated fats from the fatty meat and butter used for cooking. โŒ

By swapping butter for olive oil and replacing the protein to a lean source, members decrease the amount of saturated fats.

Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats, leads to better heart health by lowering LDL cholesterol.

What are some other swaps members can make for heart health?

How can you help members maximize a 300 calorie snack? ๐Ÿค”

When using a GLP-1, we have to encourage members to choose whole foods over empty calories. The use of a GLP-1 targets GLP-1 receptors in the hypothalamus and brainstem that control hunger and fullness. The medication reduces the drive to eat, making members eat less.

Sounds great for weight loss, but the reduction of food means they may not be meeting their nutrition goals!

Our RD Kathy Kathy Wilson shares these 2 different food options and WHY we encourage whole foods, especially when using a GLP-1!

๐Ÿซ Container 1? M&Ms and crackers! 300 calories and not much nutrition. This wonโ€™t keep members full and satisfied.

๐Ÿ“Container 2? A hard boiled egg. Edamame. Greek yogurt. And berries! This option is also 300 calories but has plenty of protein and fiber to keep members full!

Same 300 calories, with a big difference in nutrition!

What are some healthy snacks you recommend for those on a GLP-1?

Can specific fats support heart health?

Our RD Kelly kellyvelting is here to share how a quick swap when cooking can encourage heart health!

Swapping butter ๐Ÿงˆ for olive oil ๐Ÿซ’ is a simple change, with big benefits. Olive oil is healthier than butter because it contains mostly unsaturated fats that protect the heart, whereas butter contains mostly saturated fats that raise โ€œLDLโ€ or bad cholesterol. Olive oil contains oleic acid which can also raise โ€œHDLโ€ or good cholesterol! Large-scale nutrition studies, such as a major study highlighted by Medical News Today, show that swapping a small amount of butter for olive oil each day is linked to a lower risk of premature death and cancer-related mortality.

While a one time use might not seem like much, cooking every day with one or the other ingredient will add up. Avoiding things high in saturated fats when cooking can limit potential threats to health.

What does a balanced breakfast look like?

As RDs, we know how important it is for our members to set themselves up for success at the beginning of the day. A balanced breakfast can support brain health for the workday ahead, prevent blood sugar crashes from carb-heavy breakfasts (like smoothies or cereal), and help members feel energized. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Adding in extras like antioxidant rich fruits, vitamin C, and sources of fiber makes an even healthier plate. ๐Ÿซ

Because at Cecelia Health we are RDs that leverage telehealth, sometimes we even get a glimpse of what a member has made for a meal during a virtual session! This makes it easy for us to support or guide them with new ideas for meals. ๐Ÿ“

Nutrition doesnโ€™t have to be complicated. This is an example of that! Simple foods like eggs, toast, avocado, and fruit have so many hidden benefits. ๐Ÿฅณ

How much protein should we encourage for muscle growth? ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

Letโ€™s compare 2 breakfasts with our Cecelia Health RD, Lysandra Lysandra Vander Hart Lysandra VH | Sr Executive SL! These are both quick, easy, and simple but very different when it comes to PROTEIN amounts!

Option A:
oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ
toast ๐Ÿž
fruit ๐Ÿ“

Option B:
Greek yogurt ๐Ÿฅ›
nuts ๐ŸŒฐ
fruit ๐Ÿ“

Option A offers 5-10g of protein.
Option B? TRIPLE that at about 20-30g of protein.

In order to build muscle, we encourage members to consume 25-30g of protein in the morning! Doing this in the morning, supports muscle building, fullness, and even healthy aging!

A few simple swaps can make a HUGE difference!

One of these breakfasts provides the right nutrition....

As RDs, we know it isnโ€™t always realistic for members to spend 45 minutes every morning to make breakfast. This can lead to members grabbing โ€œquickโ€ foods, like in Bin A.

โš ๏ธ Half of a muffin and a โ€œskinnyโ€ latte which only offer about 8g of protein.

While this contains easy breakfast foods, it wonโ€™t support overall nutrition goals. Our RD Kathy Kathy Wilson shares a few BETTER options for quick breakfast foods in Bin 2.

โœ… One hard boiled egg, slice of turkey, and cottage cheese offers 30g of protein!

Most adults need 25-30g of protein to support muscle building. This means Bin 2 is a better option at supporting health goals!

What are some quick but protein filled breakfast ideas you recommend?

How did THIS type of food cut major cardiovascular events by 30%? ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Our RD Lysandra, Lysandra Vander Hart Lysandra VH | Sr Executive SL, is here to share how healthy fats can actually support cardiovascular health.

In the Predimed Trial, the Mediterranean Diet was shown to reduce overall cardiovascular events by almost 30% when only using food! This reduced cholesterol levels in a similar amount to actual cholesterol medications!

So what foods are in this style of diet?

โœ… olive oil
โœ… nuts
โœ… beans
โœ… fish
โœ… fruits and vegetables

So members do not always need low fat, just high in the RIGHT fats! This is why RD support is so important to those dealing with cardiovascular issues.

Shocked at the cost of protein powder?

We get it.

When meeting with members and encouraging them to increase their protein intake, they may be concerned about the cost.

Foods like steak, chicken, and seafood can be pricey sources of protein. Then come the protein bars and protein powder options on the shelf. Not always a negative to have in the diet, but can be pricey per serving!

Our RD Kelly kellyvelting is sharing a few finds that most members may have in their kitchens already. If not? These protein rich finds are affordable options when compared to powders and bars.

Lentils ๐Ÿซ˜ A half-cup of cooked lentils provides about 9 grams of protein!

Tuna ๐ŸŸ A standard 5-ounce can of tuna contains about 28 to 32 grams of protein!

Cottage Cheese ๐Ÿง€ One cup of cottage cheese contains 25g of protein!

Eggs ๐Ÿฅš A standard โ€œโ€2 eggโ€โ€ breakfast consists of 12g of protein!

Yogurt ๐Ÿฅ› One cup of yogurt contains about 17g of protein!

These options ranging from 9g to 32g of protein cost around $.80 to $3.00 per serving!

Have you recommended any of these protein sources to members? Share in the comments!
