Our Founder received this message with this photo from an anonymous son.

“Hey just wanted to say what a great idea Hero pill mgmt is. Here’s a picture I took on the day my father died four years ago. He had something like 20 different meds to take, and exhausted from Chemo, I’m sure he wasn’t able to get it right every day. It seemed so crazy that he was expected to get it right with no help.”

This demonstrates the value of Hero for Caregivers helping their loved ones with complex medication needs. Caregiving is incredibly challenging and time consuming, but is also often a labor of love.

We agree with this gentleman: It is a lot to ask to be expected to get medications sorted, dispensed and taken on schedule while remaining 100% accurate. This is where Hero can help.

Pill Dispensers

According to Liz O’Donnell, the founder of Working Daughter, pill dispensers such as those produced by a company called Hero Health, Inc. can be incredibly useful. They alert people when it’s time to take pills and dispense the correct pill(s) in the correct dose.
VonHarten uses a medicine dispenser that she calls “a life changer. I [load it with] two weeks of medication and the machine is locked and turns at a set time twice a day, and alarms until it is turned over to release that dose of medication.” She says that, as a result of using the dispenser, her mother’s health improved. Leon-Weil also found that a smart pill dispenser was useful for a time, until her mother was no longer able to manage her own medications.

"Hero is a life saver
We started using the Hero device for my mom‘s medication, and we both love it! I was finding my mom was having a difficult time managing her medication‘s and was over medicating herself with her pain medication. Once we started using the Hero machine we were able to regulate her medication‘s and get her back on track. Now every time she has a friend come over and visit, she takes them over to the Hero machine so that she can show them the machine! I was recently married and no longer live with my mom, but my brother does, but I am still able to monitor the medication’s and the machine. My Hero, has been just that. A little complicated to set up and unfortunately takes up as much space as my coffee machine but if I had to choose between them, I would drink instant coffee. That is how important this machine is to me! Without it, I would be missing much-needed medication. It reminds me when a medication is getting low, flashes when it is ready, sends sounds when I miss the time, and even reminds me to replace the pill cup when I forget.
