Been quiet over here for a bit because my focus has been on caring for the women in front of me, and let me tell you—the high I get from being a witness to and a partner with women is unmatched.

Women not settling for “this is just how it is” and making often subtle, cumulatively monumental shifts in their lives is empowering in a way that’s hard to describe.

I’m humbled daily that I get to do the work I can’t help but feel that I was made for. To my current patients, as always—thank you for trusting me with your care. A 2025 survey found that nearly 40% of perimenopausal women received the wrong diagnosis. The most common one? Anxiety or depression.

65% said their concerns weren’t fully addressed. 26% said their provider didn’t take them seriously.

And for most, the next step was a prescription for an antidepressant medication.

These medications typically work by increasing available serotonin. But in perimenopause, the issue often isn’t how your brain processes serotonin. It’s that your body is producing less of it. Estrogen directly supports serotonin production. When estrogen starts to decline, serotonin output drops, and mood, sleep, focus, and emotional steadiness change with it.

An antidepressant can ease the symptoms. But it doesn’t address why serotonin dropped in the first place.

A complete evaluation starts with looking at estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid, because when one drops, the others move with it. From there, a targeted plan addresses the hormonal root, not just the emotional symptoms.

If you’ve been on an antidepressant and you still don’t feel like it addressed everything, the missing piece may be hormonal.

Kekoka Yoga Retreat with the most incredible group of women.

Empowered women empower women, and this weekend is living proof✨

Grateful to have been able to share some of what I love in the women’s health space in a small part of the weekend, to practice yoga for the first time since last year’s retreat, another sunrise paddle, unhurried time with friends old and new, every breathtaking sky, and intentionally practicing what I preach.

Spa night courtesy of seven year old magic✨ She excitedly planned it all week long—pedicure, facial, Princess Diaries, comfy blankets, and candles🧖‍♀️ Juries out on what she enjoyed the most, but she’s got the wellness focus in life down already and I couldn’t love it more.

It was also a great reminder that saying yes is easier than it feels in the busyness of days, costs pennies, and is just a blip of time that I know I’ll ache to come back to. Now somebody bottle this up🥹🤍

Movement snacks throughout a day add up. More sustainable than finding time for hours in the gym or 10K steps a day, especially if you’re just starting out.

Start with walking after the easiest meal—for your metabolic health and your mental health. Don’t overcomplicate it, and don’t lose sight of having fun in your pursuit of wellness.☀️
