Warning: Long transparent post. Please grab a snack! I want to talk about a change I’ve slowly been making: My ink formula.
Since the very start of my cosmetic tattooing career, I stuck with one type of ink known as Organic Ink. I know it sounds fancy but when it comes to ink, Organic has nothing to do with being healthy or high quality 😂
I won’t get into the science of it all because I actually want you to finish reading this 🤣 What’s important to know is its behavior.
Organic is popular because it goes into skin easily and lasts a really long time. Like, a REALLY long time! And while this can be a great thing, it does have its drawbacks - Less flexibility in changes, cool toned color shifts and the need for more time between touchups.
I’ve learned that longer lasting isn’t always better.
If you have ever asked me for a touchup at 3 years and I told you to wait longer, you understand 😂
4 years ago I started to incorporate a different type of ink - Inorganic ink. It behaves the exact opposite of Organic ink. It doesn’t stay in the skin long, typically fading out in about 1-2 years. The plus?
A super clean fade, minuscule color shifts, more flexibility in shaping, the ability to go a bit darker/bolder without the same risk, and the ability to get touchups sooner vs needing to wait years on end.
Now, I use them both in conjunction. For some clients, it still makes sense to use Organic ink depending on the color, their skin tone etc. But now I have more flexibility and I use them together based on what YOUR BROWS need.
If I need to change your formula, I will always inform you and explain why. But my priority has always and will always be your long term results over every thing else.
This photo is a touchup after 1 year. The shape is visible, softly defined. The color tone is perfect, just a lighter version of where we started. For me, this is the ultimate goal. Not a brow that looks amazing fresh, but a brow that still looks great once it has aged and faded.
As always, thank you all for always trusting me and giving me space to learn, grow and pivot for you guys. It means everything 🫶🏼
