Here are some things I consider medicine.

Of course conventional medicine has a place.

This is simply a reminder that the ways we care for ourselves can be powerful, too.

What’s your medicine?

Funny moment I thought I’d share to bring up a valuable topic:

We can eat all the nutrient-dense foods in the world and still crave something else.

Because nourishment isn’t just about meeting our nutritional needs. It’s also about satisfaction.

And sometimes, the food that satisfies us isn’t the one that offers the most vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, etc.

Sometimes it’s simply the food we want.

Because listening to what our bodies want is part of honoring what they need.

(Don’t worry, I’m giving him chips today!)

One thing to know about me is:
I’m going to teach my boys to be healthy
from the inside out… by example.

Sometimes when I workout, I’m overcome with guilt that I’m putting myself above them.

But I remind myself that I am modeling an important lesson:
to care for yourself is to care for the ones you love.

AND that movement isn’t just something we do to stay physically fit, it’s a tool we can use when our minds feel overwhelmed, our emotions feel heavy, or we need an energetic release.

The same goes for nutrition.

There are many reasons we nourish ourselves— for physical energy, to satisfy hunger, for comfort, to connect with others, to celebrate and to express our love.

I hope my boys grow up seeing these habits not as obligations, but as opportunities to care for themselves.

Because to me, raising healthy children includes teaching them to have healthy relationships with themselves, too.

Structure and intuition can coexist…

The structure may look like (from my own life):

4 workouts a week — a mix of strength, cardio, some shorter, some longer sessions

2 evenings for leisure (reading, puzzling, etc.)

2 evenings for self-reflection

3 evenings dedicated to work (it ends up being 5 but I try!)

Here’s how the flexibility comes in…
Instead of assigning each activity to a specific day, you allow yourself the flexibility to choose based on your energy, needs, and circumstances.

Maybe Aunt flow visits Monday so rest takes precedence over strength training.

Maybe emotional overload piles up by Wednesday so it feels like a necessary journal night.

You’re still honoring your intentions, just without forcing yourself into a rigid schedule.

That’s one way to practice intuitive living beyond the plate… and that, in doing so, strengthen your ability to honor your intuition around food, too.

I love looking through my phone and discovering the photos my 3 year old son takes throughout the day.

It’s such a sweet glimpse into the world from his perspective.

Seeing this moment captured on camera by him got me thinking about what I hope he sees when he watches me in the kitchen.

Not a mom counting calories or striving for nutritional perfection.

But a mom who finds joy in preparing meals. Who understands that food is fuel for our bodies, hearts, souls. Not to mention, it’s a form of connection — to ourselves and loved ones.

Here’s yet another reminder that the lessons our children learn from watching the way we live speak far louder than those taught with words.

“You can only depend on yourself.”
“Figure it out!”
“They have their own problems to deal with, don’t be a burden.”

These are all things society has programmed us to think.

BUT humans are wired for connection, not isolation.

Yet somewhere along the way, needing others became something we were taught to see as weakness.

And, again this is an opinion, but I truly believe some individuals’ emotional eating stems from an unmet need for connection.

(I know it used to for me, at least!)

When we’re lonely, disconnected, or emotionally unsupported, food can become a source of comfort.

And using food for emotional support isn’t the problem…It just can’t be our only source of support.

Plus, food can never replace the connection we’re craving.

For some, addressing emotional eating involves practicing mindfulness.

But sometimes what we really need is connection.

To ourselves.
To nature.
To others.

I can push through a LOT of things,
but hunger is not one of them!

If you can’t focus, you may need to eat.
If you’re lacking energy, you may need to eat.
If your mood is less than ideal, you may need to eat.

Fuel is for your body…
AND for your nervous system, mind, heart and soul.

You can do anything you put your mind to once you’re fed!

You’ve been hearing a LOT about self-trust from me lately… well, the guide is officially here!

This is for you if you:
-aren’t ready to dive into nutrition counseling but want some guidance
-want something to supplement the work we’re already doing together in nutrition counseling
-often second-guess your yourself or look externally for the “right” answers

I created the Self-Trust Guide because I wish I had something like this 16 years ago when I was struggling with an unhealthy relationship with food.

The goal is to help you turn off tne “shoulds,” and actually practice trusting your own voice.

Comment TRUST and I’ll send you the link!
