If you know someone in an unsafe relationship, please remember that leaving is a process, not a single moment.

It can take planning, resources, and many attempts. Judgment pushes people away. Patience and steady support keep the door open.

Your body has a stress language. Learning it is the first step to answering back.

Some of us feel it in the muscles. Some of us feel it in the mind that will not slow down.

This month held a lot. Safety, grief, stigma, screenings, and old family patterns.

If you showed up for yourself or someone else, thank you. You are allowed to rest before the month ends.

Your nervous system is not overreacting. It is remembering.

Old danger can live in the body long after the danger is gone. That racing heart or sudden shutdown is not weakness. It is protection doing its job.

The work is teaching your body that it is safe now.

Both can feel like a knot in your stomach. Dr. La’Toya explains how to tell the loud urgency of anxiety apart from the quieter, steadier signal of intuition.

You survive the deadline, then catch a cold the moment it is over. Dr. La’Toya explains the let down effect, and why your body sends the bill once the pressure finally lifts.

Being needed is not the same as being loved.

Many of us became the reliable one, the strong one, the fixer. It feels like love, but it can leave you empty and unseen.

You are worthy of care even when you are not useful.

The people who hold space for everyone else often have nowhere to set their own weight down. Dr. La’Toya introduces the Sankofa Clinician Circle, a trauma informed group for clinicians held the second Wednesday of every month.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Black women face higher death rates from breast cancer, and early detection makes a real difference. Your body speaks all the time. Learning to listen is part of care.

Schedule the screening you have been putting off. Then tag someone who needs the nudge.

✨ Full-circle moments hit differently! ✨

One of the most beautiful parts of attending the 2026 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Annual Program Meeting was reconnecting with so many incredible people who have been part of my professional journey. ❤️

From former professors who poured into me as a student to former coworkers, colleagues, mentors, and peers who have crossed my path throughout the years, these moments reminded me just how meaningful relationships are in this profession.

And let’s not forget the new connections, inspiring conversations, laughter, and opportunities to build community! 🥰

It’s something special about returning to spaces where you’re no longer just the student learning from others, but also an educator, clinician, and professional contributing to the conversations and helping shape the future of social work.

The journey continues, and I’m grateful for every connection, every lesson, and every full-circle moment along the way. ❤️✨

Until next time, CSWE! 🫶🏾
