πΊπ§ββοΈ AS THE MAT TURNSβ¦ πΏπ by Stacy:
My Gentle Flow classes may have the comforting predictability of a soap opera: you can miss several weeks, come back, and discover you really havenβt missed much! π
So Iβve decided our ongoing story officially has a name: As the Mat Turns!
But the familiar poses, recurring sequences, and gentle rhythm arenβt just a running joke.
Theyβre part of something more meaningful: creating a place where you can return exactly as you are, settle in without pressure, and remember how good it feels to be on your mat.
Thereβs a reason I teach this way, and it goes back to when I first discovered yoga.
After many years of dancing, I simply missed moving my body. I came looking for the physical benefits, but I didnβt expect yoga to change how I felt mentally.
I came for the movement, but I stayed for the way it made me feel.
The familiarity of the practice, the repetition of the movements, and the chance to stop thinking so much and simply breathe helped me settle into a rhythm.
Yoga became more than exercise; it became something grounding, something I looked forward to, and something I needed more than I realized.
That experience still shapes the way I teach.
If youβve taken my Gentle Flow classes, you know we revisit the same poses and sequences.
Thatβs not because Iβve run out of ideas! π
Itβs because familiarity allows you to let go of figuring out what comes next. You can focus on your breath, notice how your body feels, and find a little quiet in your mind.
I love that someone can miss a month of classes, walk back through the door, and feel like they never left. Thereβs no catching up and no pressureβjust a familiar place to land.
π But the intention behind my classes goes beyond the movements.
I put great care into creating a space that feels like a warm, inviting hug.
I want you to feel welcome before we begin and comfortable enough to be exactly who you are that dayβwhether youβre joyful, exhausted, overwhelmed, or simply in need of an hour where nobody needs anything from you.
The lighting, music, atmosphere, greetings, and familiar rhythm of our practice all matter. None of it is accidental.
Because sometimes we arrive thinking we need one thing and discover weβre receiving something else entirelyβsomething we didnβt even know we needed.
Thatβs why I love teaching Gentle Flow. It isnβt about creating the most complicated sequence or introducing something new every week.
Itβs about creating an experience: an opportunity to move your body, quiet your mind, feel connected, and hopefully leave feeling a little better than when you arrived.
Yoga canβt fix everything, but I know firsthand how much a single hour on the mat can make a difference.
I came to yoga because I missed the feeling of moving my body.
I stayed because I discovered how much that movement could do for my mind.
And somewhere along the way, I fell in love with sharing that feeling with others.
So yes, my classes might be a little like a soap opera. π
But if you can return after being away, feel like you belong, settle into a familiar practice, and leave feeling a little lighter, then I think weβre doing something pretty wonderful together. π
And as for next weekβs episode of As the Mat Turns?
Spoiler alert: Weβll probably still be doing cat-cow. π
