The Interprofessional Community Clinic (ICC) aims to provide quality healthcare for uninsured adults

MISSION
To 1) provide accessible, quality healthcare for the uninsured persons in the Lake County community with dignity, respect, and cultural humility, and 2) encourage future healthcare professionals to work in underserved communities and excel in interprofessional communication and teamwork, with an intentional emphasis on the principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity. HISTORY OF THE CLINIC
Founded in 2013 by students from the Chicago Medical School, the ICC now has students from the various degree programs (allopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, podiatric medicine, and psychology) working together in interprofessional teams to provide accessible, quality healthcare to non-insured residents of the surrounding communities. SERVICES
We provide primary care services for basic acute illness, vaccinations, and chronic-care issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease. Patients are seen by an interprofessional student team made up of medical, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, or podiatry students, and treated by a supervising healthcare provider. During your visit, we can help design a health plan for you, as well schedule appointments for additional needs you may have, including podiatry, behavioral health, and physical therapy. We can also provide referrals to nearby free clinics for diagnostic testing and other supportive services. INTERPRETATION
We offer Spanish to English interpretation service for our Spanish-speaking patients to communicate with their providers in the language they are comfortable using.

On Saturday, September 26th, the ICC Community Outreach joined Mano a Mano for their Health and Wellness Resource Fair in Grayslake! The event included 20+ community organizations sharing resources, free flu shots, fresh produce giveaways, and informative presentations throughout the day on topics such as mental health, nutrition, and understanding public benefits. In collaboration with the Lifestyle Medicine, Patient Education, Behavioral Health, and Interpreter panels, we spoke with community members about the ICC’s services, including how to make appointments with the behavioral health team. We also had the opportunity to share education on the six pillars of lifestyle medicine, distribute recipe books, and give away other health and wellness-related items

This past Friday, September 18th, Community Outreach and Advocacy/PADS ICI hosted our PADS Health Screening and Sun Safety Event in collaboration with the Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Patient Education, and Interpretation Services panels. Students screened and checked blood pressure, heart rate, blood O2, and blood sugar. Every patient also had the chance to talk to student volunteers from Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and Patient Education, and take giveaway items (sunscreen, sunglasses, Band-Aid boxes, among others).

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, ICC Pediatrics partnered with the University Center of Lake County to provide free school physicals to students in Lake County. We are proud to share that this was one of our most successful events, serving a total of 29 patients with the support of 3 clinicians, 21 volunteers, and 1 advanced student.

What a beautiful day! Thank you Dr. Chen for hosting an amazing picnic for the ICC. Thank you for all you do for the ICC and treating the EOs, faculty, and staff for a wonderful day with wonderful memories.

Earlier this month, in coordination with Dr. Thompson and the team at Cook County Ophthalmology Residency program, the EO of Opthalmogy, the Ophthalmology Panel volunteers, and CMS medical students learned how to operate a slit lamp and other ophthalmic imaging devices, streak retinoscopy, and indirect retinoscopy.

Our ophthalmology panel in the ICC treats patients in North Chicago and Lake county with those who have any conditions related to vision. The ICC volunteers of this panel sees patients who have limited or no access to eye care and perform exams on those who have eye pathologies such as cataracts, glaucoma, and more!
