The news about the Pope’s lung cancer diagnosis is a reminder that lung cancer can occur in never-smokers, too.

While smoking remains the leading risk factor, lung cancer in never-smokers is a distinct and important public health issue. Risk factors include radon, air pollution, secondhand smoke, and genetic susceptibility. Tumors may also harbor actionable mutations that guide targeted treatment.

🔬 Lung cancer is not just a smoker’s disease. Recognizing this is essential to improving awareness, timely diagnosis, and access to personalized care.
