Ever opened a book and thought, “Well… this sounds wonderfully familiar”?

I recently discovered Unbound: A Woman’s Guide to Power by Kasia Urbaniak. Her passage about “mistress” being the feminine of “master” stopped me mid-page.

I’ve been using MistressMind for years, with that same meaning woven into my own document. Until recently, I’d never heard of this author or her book.

Finding that connection made me smile. Women arriving at a shared idea through different lives, different experiences, different voices.

You have quit almost everything you ever started for yourself.

The gym. The book. The morning thing you were going to do. And every time, you added it to a very long private list of evidence that you do not follow through.

That list is wrong, and here is how I know.

You have never quit anything anyone else was counting on you for. Not once. You have a spotless record on other people. You show up for them.

So it was never follow-through. It was that nothing you started for yourself ever had another person in it.

The Back to School rate closed last night.

MistressMind is $97.77 a month now, six month minimum, and the doors are still open.

To the women who came in this month: I saw you decide. Some of you thought about it for three weeks and some of you moved in four minutes and I do not think one of those is better.

Three days left on the September "Back to School" rate. I will say that once and then leave it alone.

Here is what I actually want you to do tonight.

Picture yourself next September. Same month, one year on. Nothing dramatic has happened either way.

Now ask: is she still waiting for things to settle down? For all the Back to School tasks to be complete (what was a Back to School purchase for you, btw?)

Nothing is going to blow up.

That is the part nobody warns you about. You are not headed for a crisis. There will be no moment that forces the issue.

You are headed for QUIET. Politeness. Two people who share a mortgage and a calendar and are usually kind to each other.

And in five years you will be able to point at right now, this exact stretch of your life, as when it set.

There is no emergency coming to rescue you from this. That is not the good news. That is the whole problem.

Which means the only thing that changes it is you deciding, on an ordinary Tuesday in September, that another year of fine is not a way to live life.
