Rest has its place, but for many injuries, recovery also means gradually getting your body moving again.

The right exercises can help rebuild strength, improve confidence, and prepare you for the activities you want to get back to. The key is knowing what to do, how much to do, and when to progress.

At Body Mechanics Physical Therapy, we build recovery plans around your body, your goals, and where you are right now.

Physical therapy should be more than a one-size-fits-all plan.

At Body Mechanics Physical Therapy, we focus on individualized care, active recovery, and helping you understand what’s actually going on so you can move forward with confidence.

We appreciate the trust our patients place in us every step of the way.

Strong today means more independence tomorrow.

Strength training supports balance, bone health, mobility, and your ability to keep doing everyday activities on your own as you age. It is not just about lifting heavier. It is about staying capable.

Start where you are and build from there.

What is blood flow restriction training?

BFR uses a specialized cuff to partially restrict blood flow during low-load exercise, helping muscles work harder without heavy weights.

It can be especially useful during recovery to help rebuild strength, limit muscle loss, and gradually return to activity when heavier loading isn’t appropriate.

Are you getting enough fiber?

Fiber can help support digestion, heart health, healthy cholesterol levels, and keep you feeling fuller throughout the day.

In this video, Billy, our nutrition coach at Body Mechanics, breaks down why fiber matters and why adding more fiber-rich foods to your routine can make a difference.

Think fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and other high-fiber foods.

Is dry needling right for you?

Dry needling can be a helpful treatment option for people dealing with muscle tightness, trigger points, limited mobility, or pain that just doesn’t seem to settle down.

During treatment, a trained provider uses a very thin needle to target specific areas of muscle tension. The goal is to help reduce sensitivity, improve movement, and make it easier to get back to the activities you enjoy.

Dry needling may be worth considering if you’re experiencing:
• Persistent muscle tightness or soreness
• Trigger points or “knots”
• Limited range of motion
• Sports or overuse injuries
• Pain that is affecting your movement or workouts

It isn’t the right treatment for everyone, and it works best when used as part of a larger treatment plan rather than as a stand-alone fix.

Curious if dry needling could be a good fit for you? Let’s chat!

Neck pain isn’t always solved by adding more rows, pull-downs, or shoulder exercises.

Strengthening the muscles around your shoulder blades is important, but neck posture matters too. If your head continues to sit forward, you may be missing an important part of the equation: cervical retraction.

In this video, Dave breaks down a simple way to practice bringing your head back into a more neutral position, plus how you can progress the exercise with resistance when appropriate.

Good posture isn’t just about your shoulders. Thoracic extension, scapular control, and cervical positioning all work together.

Have questions about your neck pain or how to perform these exercises correctly? Ask your physical therapist or reach out to the Body Mechanics team.

Sometimes it starts with someone saying, “Do you think you can do this?” and suddenly the whole clinic is involved.

At Body Mechanics, we’re a team of people who genuinely enjoy moving, challenging ourselves, trying new things, and having fun together. That mindset is part of our culture, and we believe it matters.

When clinicians and staff feel supported, connected, and excited to come to work, it creates a better environment for everyone who walks through our doors. Patients feel that energy too.

Great care is about more than what happens during an appointment. It’s also about creating a space where people feel comfortable, encouraged, and surrounded by a team that practices what we preach.

We challenge each other, we laugh together, and we keep finding new ways to move.

Yes, there’s actually a right way to fall.

It may look a little silly practicing it (thank you to our fearless volunteer Amy Southerland) but learning how to land on your forearms instead of reaching straight out with your hands can help reduce the force going through your wrists and hands.

It’s one of those skills you hope you never need, but practicing it ahead of time can make your reaction more automatic if you do lose your balance.

Safe falling is a skill, too.
