WASHINGTON DC: On October 11th, 1987, the AIDS Memorial Quilt was displayed publicly for the first time on the National Mall.
What began with 1,920 panels became a powerful memorial to the lives lost to AIDS and a lasting symbol of the communities who refused to let those lives be forgotten.
For HIV service organizations like CAN Community Health, remembering this history matters.
Why? Because behind every statistic is a person, a family, a friend.
Today, we honor the people whose lives are represented on the Quilt and the generations of advocates, caregivers, and community members who have carried this work forward.
We remember. We learn. We continue the work.
