This September, we launched our 3rd Promotores de Sanacion General Training Cohort!
We’re so grateful to welcome another beautiful group Fruitvale community leaders into our growing circle of healing. 🌻
Being a Promotora de Sanacion is about nurturing the wisdom and leadership that already lives within our communities. It’s about reconnecting with our bodies and ancestors while building pathways toward community rooted healing and collective liberation.
Welcome our 3rd cohort of Promotoras! May we continue to grow our network of healing!
A special shoutout to our Promotoras de Sanacion team- Flory, Mercedes, and Krizaflor for all the love they pour into this work.

🌿 Blessed Monday Community! Since the Spring, our Herbalist-in-Residence for 2026, Talyce Ketura has been providing a diverse range of workshops and 1:1 healing sessions for the people at our Apothecary & Pharmacy. As the residency comes to a close for the summer/fall, we’re excited to share the last 3 workshops from our resident.

🇯🇲On October 10, the Caribbean Herbs for the Nervous System workshop is a BIPOC affinity space where Together, we will explore commonly used herbs across the diaspora of the Caribe that sustain our nervous systems. Join us as we craft a medicinal tea that you can drink to soothe your nervous system and relax your body’s alarms.

🍃Next, on October 17, we’ll dive into Herbal First Aid for Topical Relief. Whether you are experiencing inflammation, irritation, dryness or small wounds of the skin, it’s important to be stocked with your favorite herbal salve.
Join us for a community medicine making day where we make a topical salve and learn about the medicinal benefits of each plant.

🍂To close out our workshop series, on October 24, we’ll focus on Autumnal Pot Pourri Making! Together, we will be making a warming and fragrant pot pourri to bring festive joy into your sanctuary.Come sip some apple c***r in community as we talk about what we are calling in for ourselves for the end of the year and make a fragrant mix of herbal pot pourri!

In collaboration with Black Trans Masc Collective (🏳️‍⚧️black trans masc collective- bay area🏳️‍⚧️), we’re offering an intentional space exclusively for Black, Trans Masculine folks to be in community while creating herbal medicines to support the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being throughout the transition process. Community medicine making sessions ground in the spiritual and physical elements of these plant teachers before stepping into hands-on medicine making that is led by our Apothecary Steward revel.

Everyone will leave with medicine to take home and use + create more medicine for future community members to enjoy.

Together we’ll make:
• herbal testosterone boosting tinctures
• pain salves
• tea blends that honor the joy and grief that comes with transitions

Note: This is a closed space for those identifying as Black, Trans / Masc only.

[New Date!] 🌿✨ We’re honored and excited to announce our partnership with Karen M. Rose of Sacred Vibes Apothecary & Botanica for a virtual community medicine making workshop and fundraiser for our Apothecary & Pharmacy + Community Medicine Making initiative as we continue to offer donation-based herbal medicine making workshops to our local community. Her wisdom and work has inspired our space and stewards since our beginnings so we’re grateful for her existence and willingness to share her wisdom with our folks.

This Saturday, October 3rd, Empress Karen’s Rose Healing Ourselves Wholly herbalism workshop will focus on the following:

We are more than our wounds. We have been gifted with resilience in our physical and emotional bodies that translates into our existence. Any healing approach without thought of these truths is malpractice. In this workshop, we will focus on the effects of generational/ancestral/historical trauma and how it’s held in our bodies and spirits. We will examine what equity in healing means. We will build our relationships with some of the plants that exist alongside our histories. We will reclaim the resiliency of our ancestors by sharing stories of ancestral healing practices and envision wellness as a community responsibility.

🌿Key Herbs:
• Mint
• Linden leaf and flower
• Chamomile
• Red Raspberry
• Oatstraw

There are multiple ways to engage in the workshop:

1. Apothecary Viewing — Join us in the apothecary as we watching the live workshop on zoom and make the medicine together. All materials will be provided. (Limited Capacity)

2. At-Home (Bay Area) — Drop by the apothecary to pick up the materials that we’ll be using for the workshop and take them home for a more personal viewing experience.

3. DIY (Worldwide) — Want to attend and pick up your own materials at your local botánica or apothecary? This option is for you.

4. Donation — Unable to attend but want to donate? We appreciate any support you can provide.

Have you connected with Horsetail? 🪴Our September Herb of the Month, also known as Shave Grass, is truly the tail as old as time. The oldest fossil dates back around 375 million years ago, and horsetail has watched us grow over the last 300 million years into the humans we call ourselves today.

Horsetail is not only aptly associated with the planet Saturn because they are older than time, but they also share the associated energetic qualities of being cold and dry. They are a being of structure. Stacked like a spine, they are an excellent example of The Doctrine of Signatures at work, information that was passed down by a previous herbalist in residence, Kushboo.

The Doctrine of Signature is an ancient tradition that notes the correlation between the appearance of a plant and the organs within the body it resonates with.

✨Join us this Saturday for another hands-on workshop from our herbalist-in-residence, Talyce.

Fig season means it’s time to bring some medicinal sweetness into our apothecary and our culinary toolkit! Come and learn about the properties of figs and aromatic herbs that create the perfect elixir.

In this class, we will be making an herbal fig oxymel that preserves the sweetness of the fig and can be added to any cocktail or vinaigrette!

As we continue to move through transitions as an organization, we’re preparing to sunset one chapter with intention and thoughtfully ready ourselves for the road ahead.

Our Ancestral Healing Farm location has held us through several cycles of programming, team building, expansion, and collaborative offerings rooted in our intentions of bringing whole-person healing to the people. We are grateful to the land, herself, for partnering with us in this work. And from our Pollinator Program to Healer’s Gatherings, Healing Clinics, and more, we are also grateful for all that we’ve learned along the way, and all of the stewards, partnerships, and volunteers that have poured love into the land.

This Thursday, September 24th, will be our final harvest day at the Orinda farm. Please join us in processing and harvesting our rosemary, and creating bundles to distribute to community and take home. We look forward to sharing space with you and celebrating this bittersweet moment of honoring where we’ve been and where we’re going—moving forward with deeper intentions, clearer vision, and greater collaborative roots.

This harvest day will be held by our farm co-coordinators Rai and Camille. We’re incredibly grateful for their expertise and knowledge as we’ve navigated all of the change this season. We hope to see you there and if you feel called, please share in the comments a memory that you’ve had on the land with us over the years.

🌿Staff Harvest Day at the Ancestral Healing Farm

Yesterday our Apothecary and Fruitvale teams came together on the farm for a harvest day and it was truly nourishing and rewarding to be on the land together.

Promotoras, apothecary stewards, program managers, directors, and even our amazing security guard came to support our farm co-coordinators in gathering sacred medicines to share with community!

We’re looking forward to sharing this harvest with you all soon!
