✨️It's Funny How the Universe Works ✨️☺️
Meet Jenelie Balisi, LMT, RDH, OMT — Founder of NeuroAirway Balance™
For sixteen years, I worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist. It was steady, meaningful work — but somewhere along the way, I found myself exhausted and depleted. Hours spent hunched over patients left me with pain and tension in my neck, shoulders, and wrists. My own posture was quietly breaking down. That physical toll became my first real lesson in how connected the body truly is.
So I made a change. In 2019, I opened Balance My Wellness, LLC, offering CranioSacral Therapy and Healing Touch — modalities focused on nervous system regulation and whole-body healing. I thought I was stepping away from dentistry.
Instead, dentistry found its way back to me.
While living briefly in Houston, I became a Licensed Massage Therapist to deepen my craniosacral work. While searching for a CST position, I found a listing from a speech pathologist certified in myofunctional therapy — she was looking for a craniosacral therapist. She hired me, in part, because of my dental background. Her work centered on airway health, oral function, and speech, and suddenly my two worlds — dentistry and bodywork — had a bridge between them.
I had never even heard the term "myofunctional therapy" before that. But treating clients alongside her — from babies to adults — I witnessed something profound. Breathing changed. Speech changed. Posture changed. This wasn't a mouth problem in isolation; it was a whole-body pattern.
I decided to study orofacial myofunctional therapy myself and bring it home to California. And once I understood what myofunctional dysfunction could look like, I started recognizing it — in my own history of allergies, gut issues, and airway concerns, and in my own daughter, who experienced colic, digestive struggles, and nursing difficulties from birth.
That's when it stopped being clinical curiosity and became personal.
Along the way, I've also had the privilege of working with neurodivergent clients — including children with autism and ADHD — and observing how airway and myofunctional support can be part of a broader approach to their care. For some of these clients, addressing oral-facial function alongside their other support systems appeared to correlate with meaningful shifts in focus and overall regulation. It's a reminder that breathing and oral function don't exist in isolation from how we think, focus, and process the world around us.
It's also when I started seeing it everywhere in my dental practice — airway restriction, tongue posture, palate development, facial structure — patterns that are common, yet rarely named or addressed in that setting.
That gap is what NeuroAirway Balance™ was built to close: an integrative approach that brings together dental health, airway function, craniosacral therapy, myofunctional therapy, and nervous system regulation — because the mouth was never meant to be treated apart from the rest of the body.
