Most hormone conversations start in the wrong place.

They start with estrogen and progesterone. With cortisol and thyroid. And those hormones matter, absolutely!

But here's what rarely gets talked about: your hormones cannot do their jobs without minerals. As a nutrition coach, I find that I discuss minerals more than most other professionals. Why? Well...

Did you know....Magnesium is involved in over 3,000 enzymatic reactions, including the ones that make and regulate your s*x hormones? Or that Zinc is essential for progesterone production? I'd bet not. Sodium and potassium determine how well your cells respond to thyroid hormone. AND there's a ratio that absolutely needs to be balanced between those two. Taking too mgs too high in one mineral will only lower its partner. Think of minerals like a Yin/Yang. The body needs the right balance. If you're not testing your mineral status (using a HTMA), then you likely have no clue which minerals your body is lacking. This is a very complex and important system. Your serum blood labs only tell 10% of that story because minerals live largely in your tissue (hair skin nails, thus the HTMA). Did you know... Selenium activates T4 into the T3 your body can actually use? Copper, when out of balance, can drive estrogen dominance AND cause major brain fog.

Most women (yes, I am largely talking to women because you're not taking care of yourselves as well as you're taking care of your families/careers), are low in multiple minerals at once, often without knowing it. In fact, most Americans are significantly deficient in minerals.

What can you do? Take minerals. It's inexpensive, easy and it WORKS to improve ALL aspects of your health.

Potassium is important for heart health, influences menstrual cycles, and adrenals. Calcium and Magnesium are good for bones and cell metabolism. Sodium regulates blood pressure, helps with bloating and maintains energy levels. I can't list all the benefits here.

So.... if you're taking a mineral. Do you know if the 4 big minerals I listed above are in the right balance? Does your powder/bottle/liquid list the dosage? Does it even list the 'form'? If you are taking something that says Magnesium/Sodium/Potassium (but doesn't call out, gylcinate/citrate/oxide, chloride/hydroxide/carbonate, choride/gluconate/bicarbonate), then, if I were you, I'd question what you're spending money on.

The best form depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Don't want to spend the time educating yourself? Tired of wasting money on expensive 'fad' products? Don't want to pay a nutrition coach to review your supplements? Don't want to spend money on more testing?

Then just drink this. It's one of my personal 'No Duh' supplements. The certificate of analysis and ingredients are clear. It's 3rd party tested. Click around their website, and you'll see all the education there is to gleen from their blog posts alone. I will never recommend something I don't trust fully in my body or my own family's. Also - it's cheaper ordering direct with the link than on Amazon.

I want you to feel Crazy Good!!! You're welcome :)

Castor oil packs are all over social media right now for PMS, and there’s a good reason why! I've used them for years, and, so does my daughter (who has a painful day 1).

A very big part of what makes PMS so painful is inflammation. Right before your period, your body makes prostaglandins. When these hormone-like compounds increase, you get more inflammation and stronger cramping, making PMS more painful.

Why is castor oil so effective for PMS pain relief?
Castor oil is very different from most other oils because around 95% of its fatty acids are ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that is almost unique to the castor bean.

Ricinoleic acid has been researched for its powerful anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. It's nicknamed the 'Oil of the Gods' and for good reason!

Castor oil has been used for different types of discomfort over the years - including aching joints, arthritis and injuries. The location of the pain may change, but inflammation can be a big part of what you’re trying to calm.

PMS is no different. When inflammation is adding to the cramping and pain you’re dealing with every month, ricinoleic acid is what makes castor oil such a helpful pain reliever.

And using it as a pack is really easy. Soak a clean, natural cloth in castor oil, place it over the area you want to target, then place a heat pack over the top. Wear it under a sweatshirt going about your day or sleep with one overnight. Can't get much easier.

For PMS, Don’t skip the heat! It’s an important part of using a castor oil pack.

Where should you put your castor oil pack?
There are two areas I apply castor oil packs for PMS; and for different reasons.

If you’re cramping, place the castor oil pack over your lower abdomen. That’s where you’re dealing with the immediate pain and inflammation.

The other area is your liver (near your right hip). Why the liver?

Because PMS isn't just about cramping.

Estrogen is likely behind symptoms like bloating, breast tenderness and irritability, and your liver helps clear used estrogen from your body. If you follow my work, you know, all hormones process through the liver.

So think about the two areas differently. The lower abdomen is for the cramping and inflammation. The liver is for hormonal support.

And you can use your castor oil pack in both areas at the same time thanks to its size. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

But there can be much more behind your PMS symptoms too. Your thyroid, iodine levels, histamine, gut health, stress, constipation and toxin load can all add to what your body is dealing with every month.

Why does the quality of your castor oil matter?
This part is REALLY important.

Some castor oils, even organic ones, have tested positive for toxins and heavy metals. Cheaper castor oils can also be extracted using harsh solvents like hexane. You want your castor oil hexane-free for sure! Preferably sold in a brown, glass bottle too.

Think about that. You’re soaking a cloth in this oil and placing it against your skin. You want to know what’s in that bottle!

The one I like and use? Queen of the Thrones.

Did you know.... Why Your Minerals Keep Tanking (And What Blood Sugar Has to Do with It)

If you've been following my nutrition work, you know I care and educate about a couple of big things. Two of which are: minerals and blood sugar.

For a long time I talked about them separately. Minerals here, blood sugar there. But they should be in the same conversation. Because the body is all connected (doesn't work in 'departments'). So I want to walk you through why.... because this connection is at the center of almost everything I hope to accomplish with clients.

Every time your blood sugar drops, your body sends in cortisol.

This is completely normal. It's your body doing its job. Cortisol tells your liver to release stored glucose (where its stored), brings your blood sugar back up, and gets you through the crash.

The problem isn't that particular mechanism. The problem is when it happens over and over, all day and through the night.

At 7am because breakfast was just coffee.

At 2pm because you didn't eat enough protein at lunch.

That 2-3am (awake at night again) because your body ran out of fuel while you were sleeping. Stores are depleted.

Every single one of those cortisol spikes has a cost. And a big part of that cost is your minerals. Why? Because minerals are largely stored in your adrenal glands (which is where cortisol pumps out). Those small little glands in your low back, right above your kidneys.

Here's the education piece:

Cortisol is a stress hormone. When it rises, your body shifts into a stress state. And in a stress state, minerals get mobilized from tissues and excreted. Magnesium is used heavily in the stress response and lost through urine. Sodium follows. So does potassium, zinc, and others.

These are the same minerals that support your thyroid function, your progesterone production, your sleep, and your energy.

This is why I see women with depleted mineral patterns on their HTMA (if they're testing their tissue). These people are eating well and supplementing consistently and still cannot fill their stores back up. If the blood sugar piece isn't addressed, the cortisol loop keeps running, and the minerals keep draining.

When blood sugar is stable, cortisol has less reason to spike. When cortisol is calmer, minerals are preserved. Over time, that changes your entire hormonal foundation.

What can you do? Take minerals!!! Easy fix if you do it consistently. Give these a whirl. I drink them daily :) Non-negotiable.

It's not magic. It's physiology.

There are three main levers for stable blood sugar:

Nutrition. How you build your meals matters more than what you cut out. Protein, fat, and fiber at every meal slow glucose absorption, reduce reactive spikes, and keep cortisol from being pulled into blood sugar management all day long. This isn't about restricting carbs. It's about pairing them thoughtfully.

Lifestyle. Your sleep quality, your morning light exposure, your meal timing, your chronic stress load: all of it affects how your body handles glucose. Circadian rhythm and blood sugar regulation are deeply intertwined, and the lifestyle piece is often the one that gets overlooked.

Movement. Specifically, strength training. Muscle tissue is one of the most powerful tools you have for improving insulin sensitivity. More muscle means your cells can take up glucose more efficiently, without needing as much insulin to do it. And strength training that's built with your nervous system in mind, not designed to exhaust you, actually lowers your stress burden instead of adding to it.

These three things work together. They're the foundation of almost everything I help women with.

I've been bumping into a few pregnant women, all asking me the same question lately.... What's the best vitamin? And can't I just eat gummies? GREAT question!!! So here it goes....

Prenatal gummies have historically come with a tradeoff: they are easier to take, but harder to formulate with meaningful amounts of certain nutrients.

A gummy has a ceiling on how much nutrition it can hold without compromising texture or stability.

That does not mean capsules are automatically the better (or only) choice. During pregnancy, nausea, gag reflex and capsule fatigue can make consistency just as important as what is on the label.

In my opinion, the best prenatal is the one a woman actually takes and tolerates. A gummy can be a strong prenatal option if it delivers meaningful nutrition in a form someone can consistently tolerate.

Ever heard of the brand Needed? Let me stack it against some other popular options like OLLY, Nature Made and Smarty Pants. All brand you'd typically find in your local stores.

At first look, these 4 prenatal gummies check many of the same boxes. The bigger differences appear when you zoom in on how much of each nutrient you are actually getting. The dosing.

Needed’s Prenatal Gummy delivers around 8x more nutrition than Olly, 5x more than SmartyPants, and 6x more than Nature Made.

Needed takes a different approach. Given the physical limits of the gummy format, it prioritizes higher amounts of several key nutrients within the prenatal gummy itself, including vitamin D, B6 and B12, and offers DHA and EPA in a separate dedicated formula.

The differences are substantial. Needed provides 40 mg of B6 compared with 2 mg in each of the other three, 4,000 IU of vitamin D compared with 800 to 1,200 IU, and considerably more B12.

The differences are meaningful because those nutrients play in areas like energy, fetal brain development, and bone health.

Hope that helps!
