Whether you're preparing a comforting stew or a family favorite recipe, slow cookers can save time and simplify mealtime. Remember to follow safe food handling practices to ensure your meal is both delicious and safe to eat.

✔️ Wash hands before and during food preparation.
✔️ Always thaw meat or poultry before putting it into a slow cooker.
✔️ Keep foods out of the temperature danger zone by keeping the lid in place during the cooking process.
✔️ Reheating leftovers in a slow cooker is not recommended.

Safe cooking = happy eating! 😊

October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month

This October, Oneida Comprehensive Health Division joins communities across the nation in recognizing Liver Cancer Awareness Month and raising awareness about the importance of liver health. Liver cancer is one of the fastest-growing causes of cancer-related deaths, yet many risk factors can be reduced through prevention, early detection, and regular medical care.

Your liver plays a vital role in keeping your body healthy by filtering toxins, aiding digestion, and storing essential nutrients. Taking steps such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, limiting alcohol use, getting recommended hepatitis screenings and vaccinations, and talking with your healthcare provider about your risk factors can help protect your liver health.

This month let's honor those affected by liver cancer, support survivors and their families, and encourage one another to learn more about prevention and early detection. Together, we can help build healthier futures for our community.

Know your risk. Protect your liver. Schedule regular checkups.
