Mounjaro update!!
A lot of people don't understand what it's like to feel like you don't have any hope and that your health is always going to be what it is. They look at overweight and unhealthy people as making bad choices, that they don't put in the work. I have to admit, after everything my body has been through I was thinking that maybe that was what was going on with me. That I had given up.
Some of those same people that don't understand look at medications like GLP1s and think that's the easy way to lose weight. That it's a lazy way to get healthy and only people that aren't really trying will do it. For some folks taking them, that may be what they are trying to do. For me, this was totally different.
When I went to the doctor and started Mounjaro a few months ago I was at the heaviest I've ever been at 423.9 pounds and my A1C was 11.8. I didn't know what that second number meant, but I knew both of them were bad and something had to give.
I am about to end month 4 on Saturday on this medication and I went to the doctor today for my quarterly checkup knowing that my A1C was one of the things that was going to get tested. I went in not sure of what that would end up being, I left completely and fully speechless.
I told the doc that I am wearing clothes that I haven't seen in over 10 years because everything I have is falling off of me (quite literally) and I feel 20 years younger. I sleep better than I have in a long time and the way I used to eat, honestly doesn't interest me anymore. Weirdly enough I now crave green stuff, where as before if it wasn't a pickle I didn't want it.
My body doesn't hurt all the time anymore and I'm rarely ever wore out tired mid-day, which had become the absolute norm. I try to get a minimum of 150 grams of protein in me each day and drink at least 400+ ounces of water a day. I keep my calorie intake between 1500-1800 calories for the day, but I do NOT forbid myself anything. If I want that piece of cake, it's getting eaten.
I watch how foods affect my blood sugar constantly and I overly obsess checking my Dexcom. I am completely off of insulin and have been for about two months. My blood pressure is down to normal levels and so is my cholesterol.
Did Mounjaro do all this? No. Even my doctor said that I'm much farther along that the vast majority of people that start doing this. It's because when I decided to do make this change I knew this would be the LAST time I ever had to deal with this fight for my not only the scale, but for my life.
So what did the two big numbers end up being today? When I got on the scale it rocked my whole world. I'm pretty sure the look on my face spoke volumes when I saw 338.2 pounds. 85.7 pounds, gone. Then the finger stick and the waiting for the dreaded A1C results. My face went right back to disbelief as my doctor had a massive grin and said I was at 5.2 in just under 4 months. I didn't even know how to process that.
I still have at somewhere around another 100 pounds to go before I'm going to stop, but I can see everything changing, both physically and mentally. God has given me a determination for this and I can now see this is actually going to be my reality.
So here's to some of you out there that may be like I was 4 months ago, stuck and about to give up. Mounjaro and GLP1s are a great tool, but you have to still put in the work. There isn't a magic shot that will ever do it. It takes determination, lifestyle changes and most of all, a whole lot of Faith. Because God didn't make me this way. He's got a plan for me and He's proving it over and over and over and over.
