Discussing driving isn’t the same as getting a client behind the wheel.
No matter what setting you’re in, you may be thinking, “There is NO WAY my client is even close to being able to drive… why would I bring it up?”
The answer is the same for every ADL and IADL — we work on foundational performance skills to help people achieve their highest level of independence. (Even when we’re not sure they will end up fully independent!)
Starting the driving conversation, even in acute care, gets this IADL in the POC and into the discharge plan.
You can track progress, provide resources, and advocate for appropriate referrals at every stage of rehabilitation.
This free CE course will help you understand your role with driving at every stage of rehabilitation and why bringing it up early and often is so critical for your clients.
It’s free and 3 hours of CE.
