A long-awaited post for many of you who have inquired… I am officially going to be accepting ONE lactation mentee! 🥹

I’m looking for someone located in Western WI or Eastern MN who is interested in becoming an IBCLC and would love the opportunity to learn alongside me at River Valley Lactation.

My ideal candidate would:
• Be available at least one consistent full weekday per week
• Be genuinely interested in patient care and private practice
• Be kind, supportive, and easy to connect with
• Be a fast learner and open to feedback
• Be eager to learn and willing to jump in
• Have the same heart for supporting families that I do

I am not planning to charge money for this opportunity. Instead, I’d hope to have the time and experience exchanged through things like helping with social media, virtual work, administrative tasks, etc.

My hope would also be that, if we are the right fit for each other, this person would eventually stay on with River Valley Lactation after passing their boards. So I’m especially interested in someone who sees themselves working in private practice and providing the kind of in-home and virtual care that RVL provides.

More than anything, I want someone who reflects the care I already strive to give every family who comes through RVL — compassionate, judgment-free, supportive, thorough, approachable, and someone who makes parents feel heard and confident rather than overwhelmed.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably have a pretty good idea of the kind of person I’m looking for. ❤️

If this sounds like you — or someone you know — fill out the linked form! I’d love to hear about you, where you are in your journey toward becoming an IBCLC, and whether we would be a good pair.

Please tag or share with those you know who would be perfect for this opportunity.

You deserve support that comes to you. 🤍

Not another appointment you have to pack the baby up for.

Not another place you have to drive to while you’re exhausted, recovering, and trying to figure everything out.

Sometimes you just need someone to come to you, sit with you, watch a feeding, answer the questions you’ve been Googling at 2am, and help you figure out what your baby needs.

That’s exactly why I offer in-home lactation visits throughout the St. Croix River Valley, along with virtual support when that makes more sense for you.

Because getting help shouldn’t have to feel like one more thing you have to manage. 🤍

I never take it for granted that someone trusts me during such a vulnerable, exhausting, and sometimes overwhelming season of life.

Getting to help a family feel more confident, heard, and supported is truly one of the best part of what I do. And when they take the time afterward to share their experience, it means more than they probably realize.

Thank you to everyone who has taken a few minutes to leave a review, send a kind message, or tell a friend about River Valley Lactation. It genuinely helps my little business more than you know. 🤍

Something I see ALL the time 👇

Baby nurses at the breast, then gets a bottle of supplement because we’re worried there isn’t enough milk. And then we wait… hoping supply will go up.

But here’s the part that gets missed:

Breast milk works on supply and demand.

Your body doesn’t know that baby “wasn’t satisfied” at the breast. It doesn’t know baby was fed a bottle afterward. It only knows that milk was removed.

So if baby nurses and then gets a bottle, your body got the message: baby ate.

It did not get the message: we need more milk.

That’s why it doesn’t matter that you “already fed at the breast.” If baby is receiving milk somewhere other than the breast, your body needs to be told that milk was needed.

Bottle given = pump to mimic that feeding.

This doesn’t mean every family needs to pump after breastfeeding, that the supplementation was even needed in the first place or that they shouldn’t have given the bottle in that circumstance. There are a LOT of pieces to figuring out if/why supply is low and how to safely increase it if needed while making sure baby is getting enough.

That’s where working with a skilled IBCLC can make a huge difference.

But in the meantime, if you’re supplementing and hoping your supply will increase, remember:

You need to pump for any feeding that does not occur at breast if you wish to carry a full supply. ❤️

One of my favorite things to tell families: your insurance may cover in-home lactation visits with little to no out-of-pocket cost! ❤️

I know insurance can feel confusing, but it’s worth checking before assuming you’ll have to pay out of pocket.

I’ve made it easy to see which insurance plans River Valley Lactation is currently in-network with. Just follow the link in the comments to check your plan!

I just really love this job. ❤️

Getting to help a mama work through a latch that isn’t quite right, answer all the questions that come with breastfeeding, and hopefully make the whole experience feel a little easier is exactly why I do what I do.

So thankful when families take the time to share their experience. 🥰

Thank you for trusting me to be part of your journey! ❤️

Very exciting news for our community! 🤍

I’m always happy to see more options and resources becoming available right here to local families, and the addition of midwifery care in Osceola is a wonderful and needed new offering.

Excited to welcome this new option in local maternity care! đź’›

Help us welcome our newest arrival! Nurse-Midwife Adrianne Zierman!

Adrianne grew up right across the river in Forest Lake, MN, earned her degree at Bethel University, and spent the last 11 years working for a large health care system in the Twin Cities. “I’m grateful for the priceless connections and experiences I gained though working for a very busy practice, but I found myself missing the feel of being a part of a smaller community,” she said. "I'm honored and excited to join this team and am looking forward to serving the communities of Osceola and Scandia!"
