Halloween is the perfect time to practice some everyday skills, and Amelia has been working hard to prepare for her role as the one handing out candy!
Our BCBA, Haley, has been working with Amelia through Behavioral Skills Training, a teaching method that breaks learning into four steps: explaining expectations, modeling the skill, practicing together, and providing feedback.
Once Amelia had mastered the skill during practice, it was time to put it to the test! She headed over to our satellite building, where she got to practice handing out candy to some of our younger clients.
And she did an amazing job!
We love seeing skills learned through behavior support carry over into real-life situations. Something as simple as answering the door and handing out Halloween candy involves communication, social interaction, following a routine, and building independence.
Thanks to Haley's guidance and Amelia's hard work, she's ready for Halloween!
