Chronic disease can be connected to long term living in unease. An overly sensitive nervous system, meaning the nervous system receives/takes in information via your senses at a higher intensity as well as more content coming in which makes a nervous system hyper stimulated at all times.
Some are simply born with this. It’s not repairable but one can learn how to live with it and not be hijacked by it. This takes time.
One can become this way due to trauma, cPtSD and/or childhood trauma.
Either way, it may not just be an aging problem. (It may not even be a parasite or a pesticide or an artificial ingredients problem more than it’s a fear of being poisoned by the world and then attempting to avoid all those things, which is an unobtainable goal nowadays! Often your own response to fear will harm you more than the things you fear. )
It also may not be unrecoverable despite doing “all the things and nothing has worked.” Perhaps what hasn’t been tried is learning how to help your nervous system not be so fearful for one but literally in this case overstimulated in the lights, camera & action world of high sensory stimulating environments.
What if you may be actually okay in a nature setting but the intense environments of an artificial internet and media (texture, taste, smells, etc.) may be causing the dis-ease symptoms which then get pathologized and diagnosed? The lights and sounds may be more toxic to a HSP than the actual poison from a yard being sprayed. Both can be true of course but check your fears. And then check to see if it’s too much of everything coming in via the senses that is activating the nervous system preventing detoxing, repairing and healing fully.
What if?
Lots of gray area here. It isn’t just black or white.
1. a tap running two floors away, and not being able to think about anything else until i’ve turned it off
2. pants that were fine this morning becoming unbearable by 4pm
3. strong perfume in a lift, i can taste it for an hour after
4. dishes clashing in the dishwasher making my whole body flinch
5. a hug from someone i love and still needing it to be over
6. flickering white shop lights giving me a headache before i’ve found what i came for
7. not feeling thirsty or needing the loo until it’s an emergency
8. whispering being somehow worse than someone talking normally
nobody believes this part and honestly i stopped telling people
i used to get “it’s just a sock” or “you’re being dramatic” or “nobody else can hear that” and i’d go quiet and try to cope on my own because it’s easier than being told your own body is wrong
the thing is it was never really the tap or the perfume or the light. it was being told it wasn’t real, and slowly starting to believe them
i learned to mask all of it. sit through the lift, wear the pants all day, smile through the whispering and then come home completely wrung out and not know why
it turns out sensory sensitivity in adhd and autism isn’t something you grow out of or imagine. your nervous system is processing ordinary input at a completely different volume, and it can change day to day depending on how much capacity you’ve got left
what’s the sensory thing nobody believes about you?
if you want to understand why it shifts from day to day, i made a free gentle intro to how you receive the world
