Why do I start a client's health journey by asking about sleep habits? One bad night's sleep will set off a cascade of effects that continue to spiral all day long. Fixing sleep habits makes the meal plan more effective!

I genuinely thought I was a good sleeper. I go to bed at a reasonable time, I don’t always feel terrible in the mornings (most days).
This month, I will be running an experiment on myself to see if I can improve my sleep. I will be sharing what I find here with you in hopes that it helps me AND you discover things that will make our mornings and workdays easier! I challenge you to do the same with me!
Here are a few things I have already noticed. Any time I average less than 5 hours of sleep, I automatically crave more carbs the next day. This is not a willpower thing — it’s ghrelin (hunger hormone) going up and leptin (fullness hormone) going down. My body is literally asking for quick energy to compensate for the lack of rest. My workouts feel harder. My mood is way shorter. I eat more without realizing it.

Here is my game plan so you can copy it and try this with me:
A consistent bedtime and wake time.
Dropping screens 45 minutes before bed,
Adding magnesium glycinate before sleep.
That’s it.

Will you commit to trying these 3 things to improve your sleep quality? This is one of the first things that I have clients work on when they begin a health and weight loss journey. If you aren’t taking care of your sleep health, you will constantly be fighting your own hormones.

Sleep is not passive recovery. It is an active metabolic process. And most of us are doing it in a way that works against every other health goal we have. Save this — more on the sleep-weight connection coming this month!!
Comment “guide” below if you want to try this with me and I will send you a 14-day, step-by-step guide to help set you up for sleep success!

Eight hours in bed and you wake up feeling like you haven’t slept at all. It’s one of the most frustrating experiences — and one of the most common. And it almost never gets addressed properly.

Here’s what’s actually happening. Sleep isn’t just a single state. It’s a cycle of stages — light sleep, deep sleep, and REM — that your body moves through multiple times a night. Deep sleep is when physical restoration happens. REM is when
emotional processing and memory consolidation happen. These are the stages that make sleep restorative.

And they’re the first stages to get disrupted. Common culprits: alcohol in
the evening (even one glass), a late large meal, a room that’s too warm, blue light exposure before bed, an inconsistent sleep schedule, and high cortisol from a stressful day. Any of these can shorten or fragment your deep and REM sleep even while leaving your total time in bed intact.

Your sleep tracker might say 8 hours. Your body knows it got 2 hours of real
rest. The fix isn’t going to bed earlier. It’s protecting the quality of the sleep you’re already getting — by addressing the things that are disrupting your sleep architecture.

In October-
I’m covering exactly how to do that.
