Health Information Associates Health Information Associates (HIA) is a privately held company that was founded in 1992 by Betsy Bailey, RHIA and her father, Deane Beamer, MHA.

Since 1992, HIA has been the leading provider of compliance audits, coding support services and clinical documentation audit services for hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, physician groups and other healthcare entities. Prior to 1992, Betsy held Director of HIM positions at two hospitals in Virginia. Deane has over thirty years of experience as an administrator working in various hospitals throughout the Southeast. The HIA family knows what counts – experience, commitment, integrity, and education. The success we’ve experienced these past 30 years is due in large part to our dedication to these values. We’ve set them as our standards in everything we do, and they are the reason we can provide the highest quality coding review and support services in the industry. When clients can depend on quality services delivered the right way, they find success, and that’s how we measure our own.

$942 million. That’s a lot of coding decisions to leave unchecked.

BCBSA estimates that rising coding complexity added $942 million in costs over two years. About 70% of that increase was tied to secondary diagnoses, without a corresponding change in care identified in its analysis.
AI may find a possible diagnosis. A human coder still has to decide whether it belongs on the claim.

Even if a denial is overturned it still costs your organization.

Hospitals spent nearly $18 billion overturning claim denials in 2025—before accounting for delayed cash, staff time and the cost of recurring issues.

When internal teams can’t keep pace, HIA can step in on a PRN basis to work denials directly within your system, support appeals and identify the trends driving repeat denials.
