At FRIEDA, we have one driving goal: to create genuine connections between people of all generations and all social, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

FRIEDA offers breakfast, brunch/lunch, a dinner meal plan + private events: https://friedaforgenerations.com

FRIEDAcommunity organizes workshops and happenings centered in the arts, culture, and entertainment: https://frieda.community We invite you to our safe and inclusive space to interact with people. Join us for breakfast, brunch/lunch, or a special celebration. Our Paris-trained chef, David, and the FRIEDA multigenerational kitchen and baking team from neighborhoods across Philadelphia will craft for you a European-inspired menu, infused with care and love. And FRIEDA nourishes you beyond food. You are also welcome to learn and discover through our variety of enriching workshops and happenings centered in the arts, culture, and entertainment, all organized by FRIEDAcommunity. At FRIEDA, we dedicate as much attention to the diverse individuals that make up our community as we do to the dishes we serve. In 2019, we created a Dinner Meal Plan as a service to people who are less mobile, especially during winter. As neighbors, we look out for each other - whether with a meal or a chat or a chance to laugh and learn together. Whatever you spend at FRIEDA helps strengthen this community. You make it possible for FRIEDA to create fair-wage jobs, provide group healthcare to employees, hire or engage retirees, all while offering – at no cost – our space for curated art exhibitions, installations, and many FRIEDAcommunity activities. Come for a delicious and fun experience! All we ask is that you have an open mind and treat the space, our team, and each other with respect. Discover what FRIEDA can be for you!

Join us for a conversation with Zhen Guo in a more intimate and relaxed setting on Tuesday, October 27.
Following the talk, dinner will be served allowing for more discussion with the artist and among guests.
(For more info, visit our website)

“… Zhen Guo often describes her life as shaped by “two worlds”— learning to paint in China, but coming into her own and confronting the world in the United States. This duality fuels her work and her commitment to elevating contemporary female perspectives as both curator and ink artist. A participant in major international exhibitions, Guo has long been dedicated to advancing contemporary female art. Her work has been promoted by leading auction houses such as Sotheby’s, and she has curated and contributed to landmark exhibitions in China, the United States, and Korea. Today, she remains a vital voice in global conversations around ink art, gender, and contemporary expression. …”

Zhen Guo’s Mother series explores the complex relationship between motherhood, femininity, and identity. It celebrates the strength and tenderness of motherhood while revealing its vulnerability, sacrifice, and profound connection to the female body.

FRIEDA excursion: Catherine Russell & friends

With a venue for Jazz like the Rose Theater on Columbus Circle, the softly lit round room with 3 balcony high ceiling filled with music and voice, how could you not be inspired and just happy?

Catherine Russell has a voice and the energy to wrap you in her music in that room and surround you with songs of love from decades ago.

Each of the 6 musicians are artisans in their own right and their timing and flow meshed with Catherine’s voice and presence with exactitude and flair!

And then, the “& friends” part of the headline which thrilled everyone. Cyndi Lauper!

Cyndi and Catherine sang together in their own distinctive style, creating a new sound through their synergy.

“Dancing with Bellies” (2013) by Carolin Genreith follows a group of middle-aged women in rural Germany who share a passion for belly dancing.

Their story captures the ethos of FRIEDA. The documentary offers an intergenerational reflection on aging while highlighting the importance of friendship, human connection, creative expression, and a healthy sense of adventure.

The weather was sublime, the venue magical. Pairing the terrific house band under Thomas Barlett with countercultural royalty, Laurie Anderson and Anne Waldman was a great way to capture Ginsberg’s rebellious and enduring spirit!
