Breast cancer doesn’t always show up as a lump. Sometimes, the signs can be subtle and easier to overlook. Knowing what’s normal for your body can help you recognize when something has changed. Know your normal, know the signs and stay on track with recommended breast cancer screenings.

If you notice something different, talk with your health care provider.

We are to recognize Kaitlyn Markovits, RN, at St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem, as our newest DAISY Foundation Award winner.

A family's hospital experience is often shaped by the compassion shown in the most challenging moments. That's exactly why Kaitlyn was nominated.

When a young patient needed multiple attempts to place a medical device, Kaitlyn's patience, kindness and calming presence made all the difference. Through music, breathing exercises and constant reassurance, she helped ease the child's fears and provided comfort for the entire family.

"Not once did I ever feel like we were taking too much of her time or that we needed to hurry," the patient's parent shared.

Congratulations, Kaitlyn!

Sarah lost both of her parents to cancer before the age of 33.

When genetic testing revealed she carried the BRCA gene, additional screening found Stage 2 breast cancer at just 32 years old. Because it was detected early, she was able to receive life-saving care.
