🩺 National Hemorrhoid Awareness Day | October 19

In recognition of National Hemorrhoid Awareness Day, let’s talk about a common medical condition that many people feel embarrassed to discuss.

Hemorrhoid symptoms may include:

🔹 Bright-red re**al bleeding
🔹 A**l itching or irritation
🔹 Pain or discomfort while sitting
🔹 Swelling or a tender lump near the a**s
🔹 Tissue that protrudes during a bowel movement

Although hemorrhoids are common, **re**al bleeding should not automatically be assumed to come from hemorrhoids**. A**l fissures, inflammatory bowel disease, polyps and colore**al conditions may cause similar symptoms.

Simple measures such as increasing dietary fiber, drinking adequate fluids, avoiding prolonged toilet sitting and reducing straining may help mild symptoms. However, persistent bleeding, severe pain, a painful lump or symptoms that do not improve require a professional evaluation.

AtMyColonDoc in Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Aisha Akhtar provides individualized evaluation and treatment for internal, external, prolapsing and thrombosed hemorrhoids. Depending on your diagnosis, treatment may range from conservative care and office-based procedures to surgical options.

Don’t let discomfort or embarrassment delay proper care.

⚠️ A**l pain shouldn’t be ignored when it is severe, worsening, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms.

Seek medical evaluation if you experience:

• Severe or increasing pain
• Fever, swelling, or drainage
• Heavy or persistent bleeding
• A sudden painful lump
• Pain that repeatedly returns

Possible causes include an a**l fissure, thrombosed hemorrhoid, abscess, inflammation, or pelvic-floor muscle spasm. Because these conditions can cause similar symptoms, an examination may be necessary to identify the cause and recommend appropriate treatment.

Don’t guess—get evaluated.

💪 **Recovering After Surgery or an Injury? Your Muscles May Need Help Re-Engaging.**

Periods of limited movement can make it difficult to activate muscles and may contribute to weakness during recovery.

**EMSCULPT NEO®** uses high-intensity electromagnetic technology to produce targeted muscle contractions. Following medical evaluation and clearance, it may complement an established rehabilitation plan by supporting:

✅ Muscle re-education
✅ Muscle activation after reduced activity
✅ Range of motion and functional strength
✅ Local circulation in the treated area
✅ A gradual return to movement

EMSCULPT NEO does **not** replace physical therapy, prescribed exercise or post-operative care. Dr. Aisha Akhtar’s team will review your procedure or injury, healing progress, medical history and current restrictions before determining whether treatment is appropriate.

Your core is more than just your abs—it includes the pelvic-floor muscles that support bladder control, stability and everyday confidence.

The Core-to-Floor approach combines two non-invasive technologies:

💪 EMSCULPT NEO® helps strengthen and tone abdominal muscles while supporting body contouring.

🪑 EMSELLA® stimulates the pelvic-floor muscles to support neuromuscular control and address urinary leakage—all while you remain fully clothed.

Two advanced treatments. Two different areas. One connected approach to strength and wellness.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Aisha Akhtar to learn whether these treatments may be appropriate for you.

Seeing blood after a bowel movement during pregnancy can be alarming.

A small amount of bright-red blood may come from pregnancy-related hemorrhoids, constipation or an a**l fissure—but re**al bleeding should not automatically be considered normal.

Common clues may include:

• Bright-red blood on toilet paper
• Constipation or straining
• A**l itching, swelling or a tender lump
• Sharp or burning pain during a bowel movement

Contact your healthcare professional if the bleeding persists, keeps returning, becomes heavier, is mixed into the stool or occurs with significant pain.

Seek urgent medical care for heavy or continuing bleeding, black or tarry stool, dizziness, faintness, marked weakness or severe abdominal pain.

If you cannot tell whether the blood is coming from the re**um or va**na, contact your obstetric care team promptly.

**Do hemorrhoids go away—or can they keep coming back?**

Hemorrhoid symptoms may improve, but constipation, straining, long toilet visits, frequent diarrhea, low fiber intake, and heavy lifting can contribute to recurring flare-ups.

Gradually increasing fiber, drinking adequate fluids, and improving bowel habits may help relieve symptoms. However, persistent re**al pain or bleeding should not be ignored. A medical examination can confirm whether hemorrhoids—or another condition—are causing your symptoms.
