Red Shirt Friday's

At Westcare's, A Turning Point, our staff proudly wear red shirts every Friday to remember and honor the brave men and women serving in our military around the world. The color red serves as a reminder to Remember Everyone Deployed (R.E.D). A Turning Point is an emergency intervention shelter and inebriate receiving facility, providing emergency shelter services to adults experiencing homelessness and substance use challenges. Both current service members and veterans are a huge part of Westcare's community. As we look forward to their safe return home to their families, we will continue this tradition to honor those serving our country.

The Red Tent Women's Initiative (RTWI) is a WestCare program which provides trauma-informed care to women who are incarcerated or are at risk of incarceration. Through both its community and jail-based programs, participants learn about emotions, the nervous system, trauma, and PTSD, as well as various life skills (such as effective boundaries, relationships, and communication). The goal of this program is to help participants reenter society successfully by empowering them to begin their healing journey and providing them with the tools and support needed for long-term success.

At WestCare's annual graduation, Victoria Moore (program director) had the opportunity to present information on RTWI to showcase what these participants do and to honor those who couldn't be there to walk across the stage.

Community – The Heart of Mustard Seed Inn

WestCare's Mustard Seed Inn is a transitional housing program for individuals experiencing homelessness who have begun their journey to recovery and/or are experiencing mental health challenges. Community is vital to the journey of recovery, as can be seen throughout the facility.

First Image - shows a staff member adding a photo to the Veterans Memorial in the lobby, something greatly valued here, as it honors the many veterans who have been part of our community at Mustard Seed Inn.

Second Image - shows a client holding up a piece of artwork she created for the facility, using seashells collected by various other clients. This piece of art can be thought to represent the many small acts it takes to form a beautiful, vibrant community.

FRIDAY NIGHT DONE RIGHT
On September 18th, WestCare's prevention team had the privilege of partnering with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and The CALI Project Inc. to host a Glow Foam Party for a Largo neighborhood. This was a Friday Night Done Right event — a campaign designed to foster safe, fun, and drug-free environments where teens can genuinely enjoy their Friday nights.

We saw community members of all ages show up to support the event, either bringing their families or volunteering their time. Children of all ages from the community joined to play, run around, and dance at the Glow Foam Party.

For us, the real success of the night wasn't just the incredible attendance — it was the deep sense of connection, love, and unity that filled the air. Bringing people together to protect and uplift our youth is what it's all about. We are incredibly grateful for these partnerships and look forward to bringing more impactful events to our community soon!
