I’m truly proud of myself. Everything is a learning experience if you choose for it to be. I know now for a fact, how susceptible I am to getting out of rhythm with my healthy habits when unexpected life changes come up. Having this understanding will help me in the future.

It takes a balance of grace for yourself and implementing discipline to get out of this place, and that’s what I’m working on. But it truly is so comforting to see my mindset around health and the importance of living a bigger life stayed in tact through it all.

With everything that’s been changing in my life recently, if I didn’t have the accountability of the people in my life who have seen my weight loss and health change first hand, along with this online communnity, I would have drifted even farther than I did. Accountability has been an essential part of changing my life.

That’s why I created an online membership of women on their own health journeys who want accountability in a safe place. This community has been life changing for some of the ladies inside of it, and it’s been absolutely beautiful to see!

I’ve been starting to track my calories more consistently again, but I’m still traveling a lot, which means eating out a lot. 🫣 It can feel overwhelming to think about tracking calories while eating out but the MenuFit - Eating Out Healthy makes it easier! Use code “LEAH” for a free trial!

You may have already seen the clip from this workout where I broke down crying. 😭🙈 This is the rest of that workout!

We did two sets of every exercise you see and took 3 minute rest breaks in-between to see if that would help with the amount of soreness I experience after my workouts. Due to my hyper mobility and also my lipedema (which is an inflammatory disease) I get a bit more sore from workouts than someone else might get. I think it will take a little more experimenting to see how it helps!

I’m grateful to Rachel Gould for keeping me accountable and encouraging me to show up even when I really don’t feel like it! I’ve never regretted showing up to a workout when I don’t want to, I’ve only regretted not showing up at all! ❤️

I haven’t had three meals at home in a day since I was recovering from my recent surgery in April and May. As soon as I was recovered enough, I went straight into a summer of travel. Some of it for fun, some of it for work and some of it for visiting someone really important to me. Over the summer I spent more days sleeping outside of my house than in it.

Then when my brother entered the hospital in August, I rented places to stay near him so I could be as close as possible and I stayed by his side as often as I could in the hospital.

And now I’m still on the go. Still traveling, still visiting family members during chunks of time that I have available but also trying to prioritize me and my health again.

I wouldn’t call this a “healthy” day of eating. But I would call it an intentional day of eating while on the go. I kept my calories around 2000, had a good amount of protein and hydrated with electrolytes.

Just because we can’t do everything we want to do to work toward our health goals, doesn’t mean we can’t still make choices that can benefit us in the midst of some that don’t during an overwhelming season. ❤️

I’ve never regretted showing up even when I didn’t feel like it. I’ve only regretted not showing up at all.

Sometimes showing up looks like crying inbetween sets.

On the surface it looked like I started crying after realizing I wasn’t recording a part of the workout I thought I was recording. But really, that’s just the small thing that tipped over my very full bucket.

I’ve been overwhelmed. Mentally, emotionally, and physically.

My life has gotten busier and busier these past few years as it’s gotten fuller and I’ve had the opportunity to share more of it here. It was already hard to keep up with, but I felt like I was managing.

Then this summer came with a lot of big changes. Some wonderful and some heartbreaking. And just when I thought my capacity was already full, even more was added, to the point of overflowing.

I’ve felt like I can’t keep up. Like I don’t have enough to give to every area of my life that needs me. And because of that, my physical health has declined as it’s taken a backseat to everything else that has felt more pressing lately.

But I’m a different person than I was five years ago. I want to feel good, and now that I know what it feels like to feel good, I’m more sensitive to the times when I don’t. So, I will keep showing up for myself even in this season! Because I’m worth it. And so are you. ❤️

It’s not surprising to me that I’ve gained this much weight in the last 5 months. Going from leg surgery, to living out of hotels 75% of the time, to experiencing “happy weight” for the first time, to watching my brother almost lose his life and being by his side in the hospital… I’d be shocked if I didn’t gain weight.

I always knew challenging seasons would come and my weight would fluctuate. I knew this would always be a struggle of mine, so I’m not surprised or worried.

I know how to lose weight if I want to. The number on the scale or tighter pants don’t scare me. But I recently went up two flights of stairs and realized it wasn’t as easy as it used to be. THAT scares me. Anything that makes living my normal life harder because of my health or fitness scares me.

I’m proud of myself, though. Even while gaining weight, it was clear that I am still a changed person. I still consider my health and what I can add that will benefit me, even while choosing things that don’t. I still take the stairs if it’s three stories or less, prioritize protein and hydration, park farther away for extra steps and choose intentional movement, even if it’s my first time in a week or I didn’t eat well that day. I still WANT to move my body. I still WANT to nourish it well.

Even when my choices looked different, the person I’ve become didn’t disappear.

Some might see this weight gain as failure. I see the life I’ve experienced through it. I’ve had multiple surgeries requiring rest and healing. I had so much fun traveling, exploring and spending time with friends and family. I had one of the best summers of my life falling in love. And I’ve had one of the worst months of my life watching my brother in the ICU, experiencing the ups and downs of his health and staying by his side as much as possible.

What a journey! If weight gain is the result of it all, I’m okay with that. I’m ready to prioritize my health again after it’s taken a backseat recently. And I’m excited to share this experience with you while I’m getting back into a healthy routine that works for my current lifestyle!

Thank you for being here! And this is your reminder to be gentle with yourself. ❤️

I’m disappointed in the fact that I can’t do fake sarcasm well. 🫣 And why does Shawn (Dr. LA) Moshrefi, M.D. sound like he’s leading a kids television show? 😂

Thankful to have a surgeon that is also a friend! 🤗

Loose skin removal surgery is a personal choice. I’ve always felt like one way you know this choice is right for you is when you would rather have the scars than the loose skin. And for me, that answer was always yes!

My loose skin affected so much more than how my body looked. It affected how comfortable I felt in my body, how I moved, what I could wear, what I could physically do comfortably… and sometimes it genuinely felt like something I was carrying around that made life harder.

My scars are different. They’re visible, and I’ve learned through this process that I’m not a great scarer 😂🫣 Some of them are wider or darker than I would have hoped. But they don’t hold me back in the ways my loose skin did.

And even knowing what I know now about how my body scars, I would still choose these surgeries again. I have no regrets!

I’m also SO incredibly grateful for Shawn (Dr. LA) Moshrefi, M.D. and the care he has given me through all four of these surgeries. Having a surgeon I completely trust has made such a difficult process so much easier. He has been patient, caring, compassionate, honest and supportive every step of the way, and I’m so glad I chose him to walk through this chapter with me! 🤗

I didn’t choose these surgeries because I needed my body to be perfect. I chose them because I believed removing the excess skin would give me more freedom and comfort in the body I worked so hard to care for. And it has! 🥰

*The final “after” of my thigh surgery was taken fairly soon after surgery, so those scars were much fresher at the time.

One of the biggest mindset shifts I’ve made over the years is focusing on what I can add before thinking about what I need to take away.

For so many of us, health has always felt like a list of restrictions. But what if it started with how to nourish ourselves instead?

That simple perspective shift can make healthy habits feel so much more sustainable. 💜
