I vanished last week for my birthday.
No posting.I just stepped off the grid to recalibrate, reset and surround myself in peaceful nature.
As someone who teaches nervous system regulation and mindfulness practices, I talk a lot about the biology of stress, the importance of rest, and the need to listen to our body’s wisdom. The switch from teaching it to giving yourself permission to live it can be the most challenging part.
There is often an unwritten pressure to prove your momentum and keep going. For me, midlife has taught me the hard truth that clarity doesn’t come from the grind but from the pause.
You can't hear your own inner compass when you're constantly reacting to all of the other noise and demands from others and the environment. That comes from stepping back and allowing your nervous system to find balance once again.
If you’ve been white-knuckling your way through a transition or using busyness as a shield because slowing down feels uncomfortable, let this be your permission slip to step back for a minute.
The work will still be there. But your energy, your clarity, and your nervous system capacity? Those are non-negotiable.
Here’s to another trip around the sun, honoring the quiet, and remembering that stepping back isn't falling behind. It’s how we find our footing, rebuild capacity and move ahead with a bit more lightness.
