Turns out, we actually know how to do our jobs. Shocking.
Remember that lovely little PBM audit I told y'all about a few weeks ago? The one with 40 prescriptions, 182 fills, 250 pages of documentation, and $61,805.87 in potential clawbacks?
Well, I got my results back last week.
ZERO discrepancies.
ZERO dollars recouped.
Am I surprised? No. Because I know that my team and I do our jobs the right way.
But am I still frustrated? Yes.
Because after spending hours upon hours gathering documentation, scheduling additional staff, printing 250 pages, and stressing over the possibility of losing more than $61,000, I had the privilege to prove something I already knew.
We did our jobs correctly.
Every prescription was filled for the right patient. The right medication. The right strength. The right directions. The right quantity. And every prescription was BILLED to the PBM correctly, too.
Imagine that. A pharmacy doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Groundbreaking stuff. 🙃
And while I'm incredibly relieved that we aren't losing a dime, I can't help but think about what this audit DID cost us.
Time. Resources. Energy. Money spent defending work that was done correctly in the first place.
And not one penny of THAT gets reimbursed.
That's time I could have spent taking care of patients, running my business, or being home with my family.
Independent pharmacists aren't fighting for special treatment. We're fighting for the ability to keep doing the jobs we love without constantly having to defend our right to exist. We just want to take care of our patients. And go to sleep at night without worrying that the next day is going to be the one that does us in for good.
I'm so proud of my pharmacy. I'm proud of the work we do every single day. And I'm proud that when someone came looking for mistakes, they didn't find any.
Behind every one of those 182 prescription fills was a REAL patient with a REAL story who trusted us to take care of them. And we did. Just like we always do. ❤️
