Let's separate myth from fact. 📚

When homework turns into frustration, focus feels impossible, or every school night becomes a battle, it's easy to wonder why something that seems simple for other children can feel so challenging for yours. But ADHD is about more than attention, and the struggles children experience aren't always a reflection of how hard they're trying. Understanding how your child's brain works can help you look beyond the behavior, recognize where they may need support, and find strategies that make everyday routines feel more manageable. 💚

At Brain Balance Plainfield, we believe understanding your child is an important first step toward helping them build skills and confidence. That's why we're sharing our Homework Survival Guide! Whether your family is navigating distractions, difficulty getting started, staying organized, or homework-time meltdowns, having the right tools can make a difference. 🧠

📌 Save this post to revisit these ADHD facts, and stay tuned for more support to make homework time a little less stressful. Want to learn more about supporting your child's needs? Send us a DM or reach out to Brain Balance Plainfield to learn more about our programs and available resources.

"I know you can do it. Just try harder." 💭

If you've ever heard, or even said, something like this during homework time, you're not alone. Sometimes, what looks like not listening, not trying, or not following through may be a sign that a child is struggling with skills that other people don't see. 💚

ADHD can affect attention, impulse control, activity levels, and everyday tasks like getting started on homework, staying organized, or following directions. These challenges aren't simply a matter of effort, and every child's experience can look different. That's why understanding ADHD matters. When we move beyond assumptions and get curious about what a child needs, we can begin to replace frustration with understanding and find more supportive ways to help them grow. 🧠

Have questions about your child's attention, behavior, or development? Send us a DM to start a conversation because at Brain Balance Plainfield, we believe children deserve to be understood as individuals, with their own strengths, challenges, and potential.

📌 Share this post to help spread ADHD awareness and remind others that understanding comes before judgment.

Different doesn't mean less. It means there's more to discover. 🌟

Some children think outside the box. They notice things others might miss or bring big energy into a room. They approach the world in their own unique way. Those differences deserve understanding, encouragement, and the opportunity to grow. During ADHD Awareness Month, we're reminding families that your child's diagnosis is only one part of their story. It doesn't define their worth, limit their potential, or determine who they can become. 🫂

At Brain Balance Plainfield, our goal isn't to change what makes your child them. It's to help children build skills, strengthen confidence, and discover what they're capable of while celebrating the person they already are. A brain doesn't have to fit a mold to shine. 🧠

📌Save this post for the days you or your child need this reminder, or share it to remind everyone about the power of being ourselves and protecting our individuality. 💚

Growing up is SO much more than getting taller! 🧠

Just like physical health, brain health and emotional well-being deserve attention too. As kids grow, they are developing the skills that help them navigate everyday life. Whether it's managing big feelings and building friendships, focusing on tasks, adapting to changes, or gaining independence. Everyday experiences like getting enough sleep, staying active, connecting with others, and having opportunities to learn all contribute to a child's overall development. 🌱

At Brain Balance Plainfield, we believe every child deserves to be understood as a whole person. When we look beyond challenges and recognize the skills a child is still developing, we can take meaningful steps to help them feel more confident and capable. Remember: supporting your child's growth means caring for the whole child, body, brain, and emotions. 💚

📌Save or share this post as a reminder that every part of your child's well-being matters!

ADHD is about more than attention. 💚

For some kids, every day tasks like getting ready for school, following multi-step directions, managing big emotions, or staying organized can feel like much bigger challenges internally than they appear externally. And for parents, it can be difficult to know what their child needs when trying harder doesn't seem to make things easier.

This October, we're encouraging our families and everyone to look BEYOND and BELOW the behaviors they see and consider the skills that may be contributing to their child's struggles. Every kid is different, and understanding those differences is an important step toward finding the right support. 🧠

At Brain Balance Plainfield, we believe families deserve resources, understanding, and a clearer path forward as they navigate their child's development.

ADHD medication can be an important tool for managing symptoms, but ADHD can affect much more than attention alone. 🧠

Learning, emotional regulation, executive function, and everyday functioning can all be part of the bigger picture. That’s why supporting a child with ADHD may mean looking beyond symptom management and considering how different areas of development work together.

Every child is different, and the right approach may include a combination of supports based on their individual needs.

Balance is about more than staying on your feet, it requires the brain and body to work together.

For teens with ADHD, activities that challenge balance and coordination can provide an engaging way to practice body awareness, motor control, and sustained attention while getting the body moving.

Whether it’s balancing on one foot, navigating an obstacle course, or combining movement with another task, these activities add an extra challenge that gets both the brain and body involved.

This ADHD Awareness Month, it’s a great reminder that supporting the ADHD brain can go beyond what happens at a desk.

Years later, where can a Brain Balance journey lead?

We caught up with former Brain Balance student Erik to hear where life has taken him. Today, he’s studying mechanical engineering and has interned with Junior Motorsports.

Erik originally came to Brain Balance after being diagnosed with ADHD and looking for another option when medication wasn’t working for him. Looking back, he remembers a point toward the end of his program when something began to feel different: he noticed he could stay with a task instead of moving on after just a few minutes.

His story is a reminder that progress may not always happen in one big “aha” moment. Sometimes, it’s something you recognize when you look back and realize just how far you’ve come.

This ADHD Awareness Month, we’re proud to share stories from former students and celebrate where their journeys have taken them.

What we eat can play an important role in supporting brain health. 🧠🥗

For individuals with ADHD, nutrition is just one piece of the bigger picture, but choosing nutrient-dense foods can help provide the nutrients the brain and body need to function at their best.

🐟 Salmon provides omega-3 fatty acids
🫐 Blueberries are rich in antioxidants
🥬 Spinach provides magnesium and iron
🍫 Dark chocolate contains flavonoids
🥚 Eggs are a source of choline and B vitamins

Think adding in, not making every meal perfect. Small, consistent choices can help support a balanced diet and overall brain health.

Save this for your next grocery run!

During ADHD Awareness Month, we’re taking a closer look at the factors that can influence attention, motivation, and behavior.

Three everyday habits can make a difference in supporting an ADHD brain. 🧠

Dr. Teresa Fuller, integrative holistic pediatrician, breaks down three areas parents can focus on: movement, protein at breakfast, and quality sleep.

These simple foundations can help support the brain processes involved in attention, learning, memory, and overall well-being.

Watch to hear why each one matters, and how you can incorporate them into your child’s routine.

Support the need behind the behavior.

When a child with ADHD struggles with an everyday task, consequences alone may not teach the skill they’re having difficulty with.

Sometimes, they need a different kind of support: a timer, a reminder, a smaller first step, or simply some help getting started.

This ADHD Awareness Month, we’re encouraging parents to look beyond the behavior and ask: What support does my child need right now?

Because understanding what’s behind the struggle can change how we respond. 💙
