MSDC empowers individuals with disabilities through day services, employment, residential support, Head Start, and community programs across Marshall, Starke, Pulaski, St. Beginning in 1965, Marshall-Starke provided a wide range of rehabilitative services to developmentally disabled individuals. Adult services have further been enhanced through the promotion of community employment and the provision of valuable production alternatives for area business and industry which has resulted in positive and successful relationships in our communities. From these modest beginnings, Marshall-Starke branched into early childhood education for non-disabled and at-risk children through our Head Start, Early Head Start, and Healthy Families programs. The programs and services offered through Marshall-Starke and recognized by national accreditations, such as CARF and NAEYC, substantiate what recipients of our services have known for over 40 years that Marshall-Starke promotes a culture of compassion and a commitment to accountability.

☕ A little coffee, a lot of appreciation!

We're a little late sharing this thank-you, but we certainly haven't forgotten!

During Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week, September 7–13, 2026, BIGGBY COFFEE helped us show some extra appreciation for our amazing DSPs by providing drinks!

Our Direct Support Professionals are an important part of MSDC. Every day, they help support our participants, encourage independence, and create opportunities for meaningful experiences.

While DSP Recognition Week may have been back in September, our appreciation for these incredible professionals continues all year long!

A huge thank-you to Biggby Coffee - Plymouth, IN for helping us celebrate the people who do so much for others. We appreciate your kindness and support!

Community is about more than where we live. It's about the people who show up, share their time, and make others feel seen, heard, and valued.

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Chief John Weir of the Plymouth Police Department in Plymouth, Indiana , to MSDC for Coffee & Community!

Chief Weir brought some goodies for our participants, shared what he does to help keep Plymouth safe, and, most importantly, took the time to answer their questions.

And our participants had some great questions!

They wanted to know what happens when someone calls 911, how officers find missing people, what it's like to respond to emergencies, and how police officers help people with disabilities. They even asked about his scariest calls and funniest moments on the job!

But this visit was about so much more than learning what a police officer does.

It was about building connections.

For our participants, having someone from the community sit down, listen to their questions, and have a real conversation with them means so much. It helps build confidence, encourages curiosity, and creates a sense of belonging.

This is exactly why we love Coffee & Community. When our community shows up, our participants get opportunities to learn, connect, and feel like the valued members of our community that they are.

Thank you, Chief Weir, for taking the time out of your day to spend with us! We appreciate you and the Plymouth Police Department for being part of our community.

Now, we'd love to hear from YOU!

Are you a local business owner, first responder, artist, farmer, or someone with an interesting job, hobby, or passion?

Our participants are curious about the world around them, and we'd love for you to share a little piece of yours!

You don't need a fancy presentation. Just come as you are, share what you do, and enjoy a conversation with some pretty amazing people.

Interested in joining us for a future Coffee & Community? Send us a message! We'd love to connect.
