Our approach goes beyond traditional exercise. Through specialized, activity-based training, we focus on stimulating the nervous system to encourage neuroplasticity and build strength.

Challenging the areas affected by paralysis we are able to explore the unknown.

Recovery goes beyond movement!

We use the Xcite functional electrical stimulation device to help our clients reach their goals. Here, we are using it to strengthen the abdominals to support stronger, more effective, coughing and breathing.

❗ THE POWER OF REPETITION. THE IMPACT OF CONSISTENCY. THE POSSIBILITIES FOR RECOVERY. ❗

What if one of the most important factors in neurological recovery isn’t simply the severity of an injury, but the frequency of opportunities someone has to improve?

At The Perfect Step, we’ve spent years emphasizing the importance of consistent, activity-based rehabilitation. Now, six years of observational research is helping us better understand just how meaningful that consistency may be.

Through our collaboration with Matthew Goforth of Fit Habits and clinical insights from Gil Spitz of Surgical Strong, we identified some incredibly encouraging findings:

📈 Participants engaging at higher frequencies demonstrated approximately 4X faster monthly improvement rates.

💪 Greater strength gains were associated with increased independence in activities of daily living.

Most importantly, the relationship between consistent participation and functional improvement was observed across varying levels of injury severity.

The message is powerful: Recovery opportunities matter. Frequency matters. And what we do consistently over time may help shape what’s possible tomorrow.

While these findings demonstrate associations rather than causation, they provide an exciting foundation for future research, including a potential prospective study.

We’re proud to contribute to a growing conversation about what’s possible in neurological rehabilitation and how we can continue improving opportunities for those living with neurological conditions.

❗❗FREQUENCY MATTERS IN NEUROLOGICAL RECOVERY.❗❗

At The Perfect Step, we’ve always believed that recovery is built through consistency, repetition, and opportunity over time. Now, six years of observational research is providing encouraging evidence supporting that philosophy.

In collaboration with Matthew Goforth of Fit Habits, and with expert clinical commentary from Gil Spitz of Surgical Strong, we examined how participation frequency, injury severity, strength, and time relate to functional recovery.

Our findings revealed that higher-frequency participants improved approximately 4X faster per month, with greater strength gains also associated with increased independence in activities of daily living.

The takeaway: Consistent participation over time is associated with greater motor-function improvements and functional independence, regardless of injury severity.

This is observational research, not proof of causation, but it represents an exciting step forward. We’re now exploring the possibility of a prospective study to further investigate these findings.

Proud of this collaboration and what it could mean for the future of neurological recovery!

Our process here at The Perfect Step looks a little different from other facilities.

We call this the TPS difference. Our approach goes beyond traditional therapy.

With combining activity-based training, individual goals and adaptive equipment, there is no limit to what we can do.

Why do we put pressure into our clients’ joints?

Living in a wheelchair can lead to decreased bone density. So we use hip jumps to help increase or maintain joint stability in the hips, as well as, increase bone density.

Why do we continue practicing walking with our clients after paralysis?

There’s research behind the repetitions!

At The Perfect Step, we incorporate supported gait training (walking) into our clients’ recovery programs to help improve walking speed and endurance.
