⚠️ THESE PIERCINGS WERE NOT PERFORMED BY ME! ⚠️
These are examples of piercings performed at a tattoo shop in Tupelo. I want to use this as an opportunity to educate people on why proper piercing technique, appropriate jewelry, and aftercare matter!
Here are the concerns I see:
1. Incorrect piercing angle (helix): The angle is slanted, which can place unnecessary pressure on the healing piercing and contribute to irritation bumps.
2. Inappropriate jewelry: The jewelry is not a flat-back style and is identified as stainless steel. Jewelry style, material, fit, and quality all matter when choosing jewelry for a fresh piercing.
3. Lack of proper aftercare education: Clients should receive clear, appropriate aftercare instructions and understand how to care for their new piercings throughout the healing process.
4. Incorrect jewelry for the daith: Jewelry must be selected specifically for the piercing's anatomy and placement. Not every style of jewelry is appropriate for every piercing.
5. Overtightened jewelry: The jewelry was reportedly tightened so much that the client needed assistance removing it. Jewelry should be fitted and secured properly without creating unnecessary pressure or making removal excessively difficult.
LET'S TALK ABOUT WHY TECHNIQUE MATTERS!
Not every piercing should have a curved barbell placed in it. Jewelry selection should be based on the piercing, the client's anatomy, and the needs of the healing tissue.
The angle of a piercing matters, too! Improper placement can create pressure and friction as the piercing heals, potentially contributing to persistent irritation bumps and other healing complications. Some complications can leave lasting changes to the tissue.
And aftercare? That is NOT optional education. Clients deserve to leave a studio knowing how to care for their piercings and what to avoid during healing.
LET'S TALK ABOUT HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY!
As a piercer, I believe in being honest with my clients, even when the answer isn't what they want to hear. If a piercing isn't suitable for someone's anatomy, if a certain placement isn't going to heal well, or if I believe another option would be better, I'm going to tell them the truth.
A customer will respect an honest answer and transparency. You may not always like the answer, but you deserve a piercer who values your health and healing more than simply making a sale or performing another piercing.
At Luxe Piercings, I believe professional piercing involves much more than simply putting jewelry through the skin. It requires proper training, attention to anatomy, appropriate jewelry selection, sterile technique, honest communication, and thorough aftercare education.
Being trained in proper technique means nothing if you choose not to apply it. A professional has a responsibility to put the client's safety and the quality of their work first.
Your body deserves better than guesswork. Do your research, ask questions, and choose a piercer who takes your health and healing seriously. ❤️
